Ceratophrys ornata
Pac Man Frogs are a very fat, large and funny looking and take a bit more care then most frogs.
Price - I have seen Pac Man frogs range in price from babies at $39.99 to adults at 69.99. They are one of the more expensive frogs out there.
Food - Pac Man frogs eat different food at different stages of their life. Small Pac Man's eat large crickets and small feeder fish. Medium Pac Man's eat large feeder fish and pinkie mice. Adult Pac Man's eat fuzzie mice and adult mice. Small Pac Man's should be fed a large cricket a day and a feeder fish every day. Medium sized Pac Man's should be fed a large feeder fish each day and once a week a pinkie mouse. Adult Pac Man's should be fed a adult mouse every one to two weeks. You may still wan't to try to feed your adult Pac Man large feeder fish every once and a while that is if it will take them. Mice cost a few dollars to buy more depending on how large they are. If your Pac Man is still hungry you may want to feed it more often but be careful not to over feed it.
Living Enviroment - Pac Man Frogs are really easy to house. They are best kept alone in a ten gallon tank. You do not need a lid for your tank because Pac Man Frogs do not jump and can't climb out ( Unless they are extreamly talented Frogs). Pac man Frogs require some shallow water created by slopeing up aquarium gravel towards one side of the tank or putting a water dish in the tank. Make sure that the water level is not deep enough to completely cover the frog. The water has to be changed regularly about once a week because it will become soiled. Pac Man's like to bury themselves in dirt and moss. Put down aquarium gravel first and then put down some reptile dirt that you can buy in most pet stores. Then put lots of moss (the kind that you buy in the pet store. (Never use moss from outside because bacteria may be transfered to you tank and it may make the frog sick.) on top of the dirt. Sometimes Pac Man frogs will bury themselves in dirt and not come out for a long time. If this happens and you are sure that your frog is alive they are hibernating. Pac Man's don't always do this but when it happens they will not eat anything or move a very much. While hibernation is taking place they are best to be left alone. Make sure to have plants real or fake in your Pac Man's tank and spray it down regularly.
Friends For My Pac Man Frog - NEVER put any other species of frogs in with your Pac Man Frog or they will be dinner. Pac man's eat everything in sight and will almost always eat your other frogs and even frogs of the same speciesthat ar eput in the same tank. Always keep Pac Man frogs alone unless you are experienced in breeding the Frogs.
Disposition - Pac Man Frogs don't move around alot and shouldn't be handled to often. Their big mouths make them seem to look grumpy even when they are really usualy quite happy. Pac Man Frogs get really large (Females usualy 15 cm. and males 10 cm.) and are also sometimes albino's. Albino Pac man Frogs are they same except the are reddish in colour and have red eyes. Pac Man Frogs sometimes bite humans confusing fingers for mice. If a Pac Man does bite you and draws blood ( they are one of the species of frogs with teeth (thanx Jacob) there wiill most likely be no risk of infection especialy if the forg has been in your house for more than a year. A past Pac Man Frog owner Jacob e-mailed me about his Pac Man who bit him. He wrote:
My frog Ragu bit me. I just thought there was something inherently funny about a "frog bite". He clamped onto my thumb and wouldn't let go until I picked him up and let his legs flail in the air. Then I started bleeding, and had to call the doctor, since you never know what disease you're going to get from a reptile bite.
