The Art of

William Wallace Denslow began it all with his illustrations for "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." John Rea Neill then honed Oz and made it his for nearly 40 years!
Then came the rest... Frank Kramer, Dirk, and Dick Martin who "officially" illustrated the rest of "The Famous Forty".

But it is those artists with an Ozzy vision beyond that of the "official" illustrators that are explored on this page.
[A page of "official" illustrations will be coming soon!]

Below you will find the most interesting examples of the "Art of OZ" I can find, from illustrations and lithographs to sculptures. If you like what you see, seek out their works... if they link to

then they are still available, and while some of these illustrated versions may be out of print, they do make a wonderful find at your local used book store...

In the 1980's, Ballantine's fantasy and science fiction paperback division, Del Rey, began a somewhat-ambitious project of paperback reissues for the entire Oz canon.
With new cover-art by Michael Herring, there were at least 30 titles issued before the Del Rey family matriarch, who herself was the catalyst for this project, passed away. Upon her death, Del Rey decided to discontinue the reissue program.
Below, I have compiled all of the covers I could find.
Some of these titles are still available through

for about $3.99 each. The titles contain only b&w illustrations, but the covers are wonderful.
