The rental house called "Sandcastle" really exists on the St. George Plantation, and can still be rented, though it is actually spelled "Sand Castle." It is on the ocean side of the island. There is now a house next to it on the west that didn't exist at the time the film was shot. Most of the Plantation has been built up since then and few natural dune areas exist anymore on the west end of the island.
Although the main gate to the St. George Plantation is closed to the general public, one can physically enter the Plantation from almost any point on the beach and see Sand Castle that way, from all sides. (Technically, however, no unauthorized entry is allowed onto the Plantation.) Sand Castle is located between the streets Azalea & Acacia.
A wooden walkway still runs right by Sand Castle, just as depicted in the film. However, Sand Castle itself has been remodeled since the film was made. One difference to the exterior is that the slanted wood design on the west face shown in the film no longer exists.
