Gig Review: Ted Maul, Just One Fix, Maroon and Cataract @ Barfly, London 21 November 2004
The eager crowd packed into the miniscule Barfly anticipating a night of precision hardcore/metal. First up on the bill were the impressive Ted Maul, their heavy grooves and cutting riffs firing up the crowd. An impressive set was followed by the handing out of free CDs, so they scored big time in my book! Just One Fix were next on the bill and while their music was impressive, the high-pitched Dani-Filthlike vocals delivered over it became tedious after a while.
The pick of the night in my book were Maroon. Wearing their Slayer influences proudly on there sleeves, they delivered a fired up set of awesome mosh riffs, cutting guitar playing and awesome energy. The crowd loved it too, the moshpit at the front of the tiny venue erupting into a frenzy. Headlining tonight were Cataract, and it was suprising to see many people actually leave before their set began. Those that left missed out on a tight hardcore set, again the crowd going crazy to the aggressive riffing and mosh-friendly tunes.
All in all a very entertaining night, certainly not bad for only eight quid!
