Before she could comment, his mouth was covering hers, his arms pulling her into his strong embrace. The world, or this world once again crumbled as Daniel wrapped his arms around her, pulling her to his chest and his mouth moulded with hers, moving in reply to her returned kiss. Sam let her hands wander down his muscular chest then to his lean sides. She couldn’t help but smile as he leaned further down to engulf her mouth even more and run his tongue over her lips. She gave him access and sighed as he explored her mouth and gasped at the pleasant sentation that ran through her body. This was just so…so…heavenly, so dreamy so not normal reality… She sighed again but straightened when she heard a low moan, then realised it had come from her.
A small giggle erupted from her throat which caused one to come from Daniel as he moaned into her mouth, his hands coming up to stroke her cheek with his fingertips. He used his grip on her cheeks to pull away from her, staring into her eyes. A soft ‘whoa’ was all that could be heard as he drew a shaky breath. He was breathing so hard he thought he’d pass out from lack of oxygen. Sam tried to get her racing heart and breathing undercontrol as she stared into Daniel’s eyes and smiled slightly at his one word explanation. Was this the first time he’d ever been speechless? She leant into his hands and closed her eyes with a sigh, the soft skin of his palms rubbed her soft, flushed cheeks and smiled “Yeah, whoa” all aspects and anger of their previous argument seemed to drain away as if a tap had been turned off.
Daniel smiled slightly back, looking slightly confused yet curious “What…what was that?” Sam glanced away from a second “That was me…kissing you” “Oh, I thought that was me kissing you” “Well, I guess it was a combined effort” “Would seem so” Daniel stepped back and leant on the ‘book’ “Oh wow, my hearts still running a million miles an hour” he smiled slightly and shook his head in amusement “How…I’m sorry but that was…I’ve never felt that…whoa” Sam nodded and then bit her lip “I’m not quite sure what ‘that’ was but…” “It was something right” he added. “Yeah, I think so…” Sam paused, curiously reaching out with her index finger, running it down Daniel’s cheek to his lips were she traced them.
He sighed and smiled but his and Sam’s smile quickly faded as the castle shook violently again, causing them both to stumble. Sam would have fallen to the dusty ground if it weren’t for Daniel pulling her into his arms and holding her until the tremors had passed. The second they stopped she glanced to Daniel who was looking around worriedly and then to the door. “We gotta go Daniel” Sam said softly, tugging on his sleeve, gesturing towards the door. But once again Daniel glanced around the lit up room, his eyes dancing as he looked from one inscription to the next, trying to memorise drawings, every word, every little glyph but…but it was to hard, there were to many things to remember in a quick glance. To much knowledge…to much history…to much stuff!! It was just so beautiful, so incredibly wonderious, he’d never seen anything like it before and was quite sure he’d never see anything like it again but Sam…
God she was beautiful. But just so confusing. All these things had suddenly been thrown at him and it was just to much. Damnit! These damn inscriptions looked easier than talking to Sam about what had just happened. What had just happened? “Daniel, please come, now” came a soft but pleading voice. Daniel paused, turning to stare at his friend “Sam, do you know what this all is?” his hand waved around at the engraved walls “What this all means?”. Sam sighed, feeling defeat start to weigh heavily on her shoulders, she knew just how much this meant to him but this just wasn’t right…it just wasn’t…she couldn’t’ loose him now…not to something like this after all they been through…after what he’d been through… “I don’t care Daniel, I still wouldn’t care if it was the ultimate diet program. What I do care about is you, and these feelings…” Sam waved her hands around, trying to express her feelings without words but not succeeding “…these feelings I’m suddenly feeling are kinda new and I want to find out what they are…I…I can’t….”
Sam took a deep, settling breath, trying to calm herself and her nerves “I can’t do that if you’re here and I’m on earth” tears started to slowly roll down her cheeks as the emotions broke out from the barriers she’d tried to put up. ‘Why did all those barriers break when it came down to Daniel?’ “I can’t do that if I go home and you stay here and face a certain death, alone. I can’t do it” Sam made a quick attempt to stop her almost hysteria and gain some control but all attempts failed rather quickly as she saw the torn look on Daniel’s face. He wanted to stay. She knew it. He was going to stay here and die. And leave her alone. Daniel bit down on his lip…hard. No one had ever expressed this many feelings and emotions to him, ever. Even his parents, they’d just been to busy, hadn’t even had time for breakfast the day they died.
But this place, this planet, it was everything, it’s importance to history and to him was bigger than him or Sam or the growing feeling of…of something towards this woman, but still this place was , no, what good was it, as Ernest had said, if there was no one to share it with… Daniel turned back around from the wall he’d been gazing intensly at and with dread saw Sam already halfway up the stairs. She was leaving, just as his parents, his friends and his faith in the world had.
Not anymore. He grabbed his notebook, grabbed what pages of his scattered notes were nearby and started to sprint towards the stairs, away from the trembling room. Once he reached Sam he snatched up her hand and without a word, only a small smile to Sam’s surprised face and pulled her hurriedly away from the shaking room and up the trembling stairs.
