Daniel couldn’t remember where or even when this had been taken but if he squinted hard enough he could make out trees behind the group. Up side? It really didn’t matter though, and anyway, it was more than a picture, it was his hope "Very corny Jackson" he muttered before putting the picture back down. Daniel continued his pacing "Um Sam, I need to talk to you…actually I’ve been meaning to talk to you for the last few weeks…or months and-".
"About what?" "Ahh!" Daniel jumped a metre and finally came back to earth, only to miss balance and fall to the ground "Shit! Don’t do that!". Sam chuckled and entered the office from where she’d stood at the doorway "You all right?" she held out her hand and Daniel placed his into hers and she helped him up. "Yeah, you just gave me a shock, how long you been there?" Daniel stared at Sam who had raised her eyebrows "What?". She shrugged but then smiled and shook her head "You are such a klutz". It was meant as a tease but it hurt Daniel.
He’d been called that ever since he was seven, right through to being nineteen, and he didn’t need his friends calling him it now, even if he was. "I’m fine" he replied grumpily, turning back to his desk stacking with paper work. Frowning, Sam followed him and sat in the chair opposite him "What’s wrong?". Daniel glared at her slightly, not wanting her to stay "Nothing". She snorted softly and rolled her eyes "Yeah, nothing makes you jump like all hell and then go all cranky on me" Sam leant forward on the desk, staring into Daniel’s eyes "You can tell me Daniel, I’m your friend".
"That’s the problem!" Daniel was up again, pacing the office, his hands waving as he spoke all to quickly "You’re my friend, one of my best in fact and that means a lot to me! Don’t get me wrong! I didn’t have to many friends when I was young, or even when I was older, and you guys mean so much to me and you have to know that I don’t want to do anything, I mean anything, that might compromise that friendship and-". "Daniel!," Sam shook her head again "Are you okay? You sound like you, well, high".
Daniel stopped pacing and smiled "No Sam, I’m not high". "Then what? You’re going to wear a hole in the floor". Daniel walked around his desk to stand in front of Sam "I…". Carefully, so not to scare him, Sam took Daniel’s hand in hers, smiling at his fumbling. "What is it? Are you scared of something, has someone threatened you?" she stood and looked rather angry. Daniel quickly jumped back in "No Sam, and if they had they’d be the ones in trouble, especially after Jack just taught me to box" he grinned triumphantly and Sam nodded. "Good on ya! We’ll have to have a round sometime, but back to the topic at hand," not letting go if his hands, she pulled him over to his bottom bunk and forced him to sit beside her "Are you in some kind of trouble Daniel? I can help you out, you don’t always have to try and be Jack, all you need to do is ask…".
"Well, I am in a little trouble…" Daniel glanced to her and then away "I um," Daniel stopped himself from going any further, deciding that it would be better to make little to none hurt to lots. It was either to tell her that he was head over heals for her or not. "Sam, I think I have a crush on you". Sam felt her breath stop in her throat and raised her eyebrows in shock "Whoa, where did that come from?!". Daniel smiled slightly "Sorry, just kinda came out" he squeezed her hands and shrugged "But you don’t have to worry. It should go away soon enough" ‘Gee!’ Daniel shouted at himself ‘That was just so smart! I thought you were meant to be some kind of child genius or something?!’.
"Um…" Sam bit her lip and then stared back up at Daniel "You think it’ll go away?". Daniel nodded eagerly, regretting he’d even spoken "Yeah, of course" Unfortunately, even Daniel knew it wasn’t that easy, but he could at least try to salvage the friendship. "Oh, well, I guess that’s for the best" Sam muttered back, squeezing his hands and giving him a small smile. Daniel frowned, maybe the damage was already done "I’m sorry Sam, if we could just forget about his I’d be-". Sam stood and pulled Daniel up with her "No, that’s it, I don’t know why but I don’t want to forget it…I don’t know why" she looked up into his blue eyes and smiled "I don’t want to". Daniel felt his heart exploding and his face lit up "You mean that?! I can’t-" his words were stopped by Sam’s lips meeting his own.
All words that were coming died and he sighed softly, letting his feelings finally out "Damn it Sam". Sam pulled back for a second and stared at Daniel with shock "My god, I think-" not waiting for her to finish, Daniel kissed her again only to pull back as Sam continued to try and speak. "Daniel, let me finish!" she smiled at his impatient look and he gently pulled her into a hug as she spoke "I think…I think I love you…" Daniel froze, pulled back and stared into her eyes. "What?". Her reply was more confident than before. Sam grinned and pulled his glasses off and put them on his desk "I love you Daniel Jackson".
"Whoa!" Daniel stepped back from her embrace and frowned slightly "But I, it’s to early and we have to talk…and how about Jack…and don’t forget Teal’c and the General and oh my god! You love me!" he stared at her. Sam looked rather uncomfortable under his dissecting look, she knew that look to well. He had that look when ever he was looking for the invisible strings that were attached "No strings, just me" she whispered softly. Daniel looked even more confused but Sam wasn’t sure whether it was because of her statement or his own jumbled feelings. "I…I love you too".
Of all things, Sam hadn’t been expecting that. Maybe: ‘Sam, I have a simple crush on you, nothing more, nothing less’ or ‘I think we’re taking this to fast’ or even ‘I still love Sha’uri’. "What?". Daniel grinned and stepped back towards her "I love you Samantha Carter, I love you! I love you!!". Sam smiled back and then laughed "Well then, I think you should come here…" she grabbed his belt and pulled him straight to her and kissed him firmly on the lips "Now that we have that settled…" no more was said, only done and that was the way it was meant to be, nothing more and nothing less.
