April 10th 1912

12 noon : Watched by thousands of cheering well wishers, Titanic leaves Southampton.

7 pm : The ship stops at the French port of Cherbourg to pick up more passengers including the Astors and Benjamin Guggenheim.

April 11th

12:30 pm : Titanic stops at Queenstown, Ireland for more passengers. One crewman changes his mind about the journey and decides to desert the ship.

2:00 pm : Titanic begins it's journey to New York, with more than 1,300 passengers and nearly 900 crew members on board.

April 14th

9 am : Titanic recieves a wireless message from the Captain of the ship Carona travelling from New York to Liverpool, reporting ice a few miles north of Titanic's intended route.

1:42 pm : Another ice warning, this time from the Baltic. The message is taken by the Captain who hands it to White Star line chairman Mr. J Bruce Ismay for information. Ismay puts it in his pocket.

1:45 pm : The German liner Amerika reports two icebergs to the Hydrographic Office. Information is relayed to Titanic.

5:50 pm : The ship changes its route as the air temperature drops sharply.

9 pm : The temperature falls to near freezing.

9:30 : One of the ship's senior men warns the engine room to keep an eye on the fresh water supply in case it freezes.

9:40 : Message comes in from another ship, the Mesaba, reporting a "heavy pack of ice and a great number of icebergs". The message is never delivered to the Captain. Titanic was speeding towards a 78 mile stretch of ice.

11:38 pm : Lookout Frederick Fleet spots a large black object in their path. He rings the ship's brass bell abd alerts fellow officer James Moody on the bridge.

11:40 pm : Moody orders the ship to make a sharp turn but it is too late. The ice mountain rises 75 ft above sea-level and seconds later Titanic scrapes along the iceberg which rips a 300ft gash along the ships side, below the water line.

April 15th 1912

12:05 am : Orders are given to uncover the lifeboats. Passengers and crew members are rounded up.

2:18 am : The unthinkable happens. Unsinkable Titanic begins its decent into the freezing waters.
