Although Skippy and I weren't overly optimistic when faced with the idea of creating a flick in French (especially considering the fact that neither of us, or the cast for that matter, actually speak French with any proficiency), it developed into our best effort yet.

Post production- the filmming and editting were actually finished in March, but we edited our master copy onto an 8 year old S-VHS tape (stupid stupid stupid) and by the third viewing there was static and the color was switching in and out. DOH! So Skippy and I are planning to get together to re-do it- once we get our lazy asses motivated.

NEW!

After chatting with Wayne from the band Sleeve, there's a definite possibility that our flick will have a theme song, and in French no less! We'll keep you posted...

Plot Synopsis

Although the plot is HARDLY integral to the movie, I'll review it just the same! A group of teenagers break into their high school in order to commit some random acts of vandalism and smoke some pot. The school janitor (whose mental instability is established early on), takes it upon himself to rid the world of these "punk kids". He extracts revenge on them in a variety of creative and unexpected fashions. As in all slasher movies, it comes down to a battle between him and the remaining punk. But is it ever really over???

General comments

We were admittedly nervous going into the filmming of "MauB", primarily because our French teacher had on the directorial hat for the first few days rather than just trusting us with the production. Skippy was about ready to snap when she insisted we rehearse the shots in order because "That's the way it'll be filmed". However, once we got to the school for filmming and she saw us get to work, she realized that we actually knew what we were doing and gave us pretty much total control over the flick. Actually, it was really great of her to do it- we ended up staying in the school until 12:30 filmming, then had to finish filmming on another day starting at 6 in the morning. It was a collosal pain in the ass for her, but she got through it with a smile and minimal complaining and therefore is worthy of praise.

ANYWAY- filmming went very well. We tried out a variety of different shots and got some scenes that were bordering on scary (my mom shrieked and averted her eyes at one part, which we took as a compliment). All the actors put in a great effort, and although everyone but Skip and I were new to the process, they got into it and performed "very professionally".

Mistakes? Well, were we to do it again some changes would have to be made. We somehow forgot the cardinal rule of filmmaking- "The buffer zone is your friend. Love and respect the buffer zone", which made editting slightly difficult. The last fight scene was choreographed in about 3 minutes, and was therefore pretty cheap. A couple continuity errors snuch their way in, and the inexplicable falling got a bit tedious. BUT, enough complaining, all in all it was a pretty cool flick, and well worth the effort we put into it.
