New York, December 4, 1998 - The New York Rangers will host SuperSkate'99, the first annual superskills competition and celebrity hockey game on Friday, January 8, at Madison Square Garden at 7:00 PM. Honorary event captains Wayne Gretzky and Christopher Reeve will team up in an all-star night of hockey to benefit the NYR SKATE and Christopher Reeve Foundations. Tickets go on sale Monday, December 7, at 12:00 PM at the Madison SquareGarden Box Office and through Ticketmaster charge by phone. WHEN: Friday, January 8, 1999 beginning at 7:00 PM Founded in 1996, the mission of the Christopher Reeve Foundation is to raise funds for medical research leading to effective treatment and ultimately, a cure for spinal cord injury paralysis. CRF also provides grants to local organizations that focus on the quality of life issues for the disabled, and it serves as a source of information and a voice for all people with disabilities.
NYR SKATE was established in January 1998, as a division of the Madison Square Garden Cheering for Children Foundation, designed to enrich the lives of children in the tri-state area. Through monies raised this season from fundraising programs including in-game silent auctions and raffles, Garden Vision sweet spot messages, outer mall activities and special events including Draft Day '98 and SuperSkate '99 - the Rangers will provide financial assistance to a variety of children's charities.
