Luke Skywalker was raised on a moisture farm by Owen and Beru Lars, whom he called uncle and aunt (they were really relatives of Obi Wan {Ben} Kenobi). They lived on the twin-sunned world Tatooine. While Luke saw his future in the stars, at the age of eighteen he was getting restless on the desert planet, yet his Uncle Owen kept him firmly at work on the farm and turned down his repeated requests to join the Academy. When Uncle Owen purchased a pair of droids (R2D2 and C-3PO) from a group of Jawa merchants, Luke became wrapped up in the R2D2's quest (R2D2 contained a message from Princess Leia, who's ship had been landed by Darth Vader, asking Kenobi for help). This led him to Obi-Wan Kenobi (known to Luke as Old Ben), a Jedi Knight, living as a hermit in the barren and treacherous Jundland Wastes. Obi-Wan told Luke that Luke's father was betrayed and murdered by one of Kenobi's students called Darth Vader. Kenobi gave to Luke Luke's father's old light saber and told him that he was going to teach the young man the ways of the Force. Back on the moisture farm Imperial Stormtroopers, who were looking for the two droids, killed Owen and Beru Lars and destroyed the farm. Luke decided that he had no choice other than to join Kenobi on his quest. They found a pilot, Han Solo, and his counterpart chewbacca the Wookie, at Mos Eisley space port, and for seventeen thousand credits Solo agreed to take Luke, Obi-Wan and the droids to Alderaan to find Princess Leia. When they arrived to where Alderaan should have been they discovered the planet was destroyed. Luke, Han and Obi-Wan Kenobi manage to save princess Leia from the Death Star but Obi-Wan is killed by Darth Vader. Three years later while on the Rebel's base planet of Hoth, Obi-Wan's spirit comes to Luke and tells him to go to the planet Dagobah and to find a Jedi master called Yoda. On Dagobah, Luke finds and learns a lot from the old Jedi master, but before he finishes his training he leaves for Cloud City where Leia, Solo and the others have been captured by Darth Vader. Vader, who really only wants Luke because the Emperor knows that the Force is strong in him, tries freezing Solo in carbonite. This is so that when he puts Luke in carbonite he is sure that it will work. Luke arrives on Cloud City and comes face to face with Vader for the first time. During a lightsaber duel, Vader cut off Luke's hand (Luke therefore loses his lightsaber). Vader then reveals that he is Luke's father and invites Luke to join him on the Dark Side of the Force. Luke refuses and jumps down a shaft. Luke is saved by Lando Calrissian who is flying the Millenium Falcon because Han was frozen in carbonite. Luke sends a sort of ESP message to Leia (he's using the Force). She gets it and tells Lando to turn around because she knows where to find Luke. Luke gets a fake hand to replace the one he lost. After that he returns to Tatooine to save Han from Jabba the Hut (Vader gave Han-in-carbonite to Boba Fett, a bounty hunter, who then turned Solo over to Hutt for a large sum of credits). Jabba refused to give Han over to Luke so Luke kill him (after an adventure...). Luke then returned to Dagobah to complete his training. Yoda told Luke that Vader spoke the truth and he was indeed Vader's son. Unfortunatly, Yoda was very old and was soon going to die, but before he did he told Luke that his trainig was complete, all he had left to do to become a Jedi knight was to confront Vader for a second time. As Yoda died, he reveals that there is another Skywlker...Luke thinks that it's Leia who is his sister (remember how sheknew where to find him on Cloud City?) and Kenobi's spirit confirms this. Luke returns to the rebels who then go to Endor because they have to shut down a power generator located on that planet in able to destroy the second Death Star. Luke feels that he is endangering the mission because Vader can feel his presence, so he leaves to face Vader. Before doing so he tells Leia that she is his twin sister. Luke faces Vader once again before the Emperor. Luke strikes Vader's hand off and luke realizes that Vader has a mechanical hand (just like Luke). As the Emperor starts to kill Luke, Vader picks up the Emperor and throws him down a shaft. The Emperor is now dead and Vader returns to the light side of the Force. Vader now takes off his breathing mask to view his son with his own eyes and dies. Luke had embarked on an adventure that would lead him to become a Rebel hero and a Jedi Knight.
