R2-D2 was aboard Princess Leia's consular ship Tantive IV when it was captured by an Imperial Star Destroyer. Leia downloaded the technical readouts of the Death Star into Artoo's memory banks, ordering the droid to deliver the information to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Artoo's extreme devotion to his mission resulted in the successful delivery of Leia's message to Obi-Wan. Artoo has saved the day for Luke Skywalker on many occasions, from fixing problems with Luke's X-wing during the Battle of Yavin to providing Luke's lightsaber in the nick of time at the Great Pit of Carkoon.
