Day 3: The Arkansas River and Royal Gorge

We tried to approach Royal Gorge from the west. A road leads to the back gate, but it isn't open in the off season.
Of course, we drove about ten miles to find that out. Along the way, we passed this dust devil.
Here's the main entrance to the Royal Gorge attraction.
The gorge itself was beautiful, and there were great photo opportunities without entering the park.

Past the suspension bridge, the river moves quickly out of the mountains and into the plains beyond. This point in the county park above the bridge gives a great view.
Returning to Walsenburg from Pueblo that afternoon, we encountered a dust storm. Incredible winds and dust streaming across the road like fog.
