*ing : Govinda, Ramya, Kadar Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Bindu, Asif Sheikh & Upasna Singh.

Now lets get this straight. If David Dhawan - Govinda inanities are not your cup of tea then steer clear of this one. However, if you don't mind being subject two and a half hours (yup this movie was surprisingly short) of entertaining nonsense then this one gets the recommendation of the week.

Gopi (Govinda) is your average village bumpkin who's loved and respected by all (or so they say). All's well until Singapore ki memsahib Madhu (Ramya) steps into the scene and falls in love with our village buffoon (or claims to anyway). Madhu's pa (Kadar Khan) is overwhelmed since he couldn't have asked for a better son in law. Soon enough they get married and live happily. . . . uh uh there's a hitch. Madhu's mama dear (Bindu) is dead against the match and would rather her beau-ugh-tiful daughter get married to nasty sod Asif. What's more the simple (yeah right) 'gaonwale' find Madhu rude and obnoxious and are downright disgusted to see her prancing around in a skimpy swimsuit (wish she had something to flaunt though).

Bechara Gopi is embarrassed by all the fuss and finally when push comes to shove he insults his intolerant wife in front of her friends. Madhu throws a tantrum and leaves her hubby only to return to mama back in Singapore (and up till now I was thinking - hey look no foreign locations). Anyway innocent ol' Gopi follows her there (though heaven knows how he made the arrangements so soon - there's absolutely no sign of a travel agent anywhere in the damn village!!!). Once there, he wreaks havoc within the household with the help of his pa in law and somehow manages to get his wife pregnant in the confusion (oh and did you know that in Singapore doctors can tell if a woman is pregnant by simply checking her pulse rate!!! Ha! Ha!). Anyway the vile ma in law is determined to abort the baby at any cost but not if our village simpleton can help it. The baby is born eventually and our hero takes him back to good ol' desi soil - bechari Madhu follows him and. . . . don't worry I won't ruin the ending people - you can check it out for yourself.

Verdict

Govinda is in top form as usual and his wackiness is worth the price of the ticket in the first place. Chi Chi bhaiya truly is Entertainer No.1. Kadar Khan, Shakti Kapoor and Bindu lend adequate support. But unlike previous Dhawan - Govinda flicks the music in this one doesn't quite hit the spot. Apart from a stray 'San Sana San' none of the songs are worth any mention - which is a pity ' cos there are too many of them. The major drawback comes in the form of the films leading lady - Ramya. She neither has the oomph of a Karisma and neither the flair of comedy a la Juhi. Her outfits are hideous - those skimpy outfits are a definite no - no. Apart from the climax Ramya disappoints throughout. Technically, the film is passable.

All said and done though, the flick is quite entertaining. Govinda's antics and buffoonery alone make this one a must see...
