*ing : Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Juhi Chawla, Anupam Kher, Reema Lagoo, Johnny Lever, Shakti Kapoor, Kadar Khan, Saeed Jaffey, Upasna Singh, Satish Kaushik, Salman Khan (sp.app), Raveena Tandon (sp.app) & Pratibha Sinha (sp.app).

'Deewana Mastana' is a laugh riot from start-to-finish. Though the plot seems old hat David Dhawan proves he can be different with careful handling and effective direction.

Raja (Anil Kapoor) and his friend Gafoor (Johnny Lever) blackmarket train tickets at Amirpur station. After looting 25 lakhs rupees from the railway lockers, they flee to Mumbai. Raj is smitten by Neha (Juhi Chawla) at first sight. Neha is a psychiatrist who is treating Bunnu (Govinda) for his various phobias (fire, heights, water...!) Bunnu is also in love with Neha.

The game now starts with both Raj and Bunnu are in love with Neha. Each tries to outdo
the other in dirty tricks and win the heart of Neha. Gafoor even tries to kill Bunnu and Bunnu on the other side hires a contract killer Pappu Pager (Satish Kaushik) to kill Raja. This leads
to hilarious situations and rib ticking sequences - stupid but funny nonetheless...

Verdict

David Dhawan truly does bring the best out in Govinda. Govinda is the soul of the film as he chips in an almost effortless performance. Anil Kapoor keeps up with him but when it comes to comedy there's nobody better than Govinda. The scenes between Anil Kapoor and Govinda are thoroughly enjoyable particularly where each of them are making snide remarks about their previous flicks. Govinda's '...baby steps and I'm okay' dialogues are so-o-o funny.

Juhi Chawla looks great which is difficult in a David Dhawan movie. Her role however is less exciting but she performs well in the chances that she's given - we have to remember that this is a male oriented script and with Govinda and Anil Kapoor around it's not easy to get a chance to perform. The supporting cast is good - it's nice to see Anupam Kher after such a long time. Johnny Lever this time is much more bearable unlike 'Judaai', 'Daraar' and the rest of the ilk.

Technically the film is okay. Honestly spaeaking it's boring seeing the same streets of Switzerland again and again. The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal is boring but 'Tera Bina Dil' is quite pleasant to the ears.

David Dhawan has proved that he can make a good movie without the aid of double meaning dialogues and lewd gestures. 'Deewana Mastana' is a great comedy - probably David Dhawan's best along with 'Hero No.1'...
