Deepak Sareen - the director returs after a long gap with his last (and first) venture being Yash Chopra's classic tale of sibling rivalry - 'Aaina'. This time around as well he comes up with a great movie which intends to be commercial as well as being different.
Suraj Dhanrajgir (Salman Khan) is a rich and manipulative playboy who treats women as objects and discards them as soon as he's done with them. Added to which he has all the bad qualities such as drinking, smoking and so on - clearly the result of being parentless since childhood as well as his liberal 'dadaji' (Anupam Kher). The grandad is concerned about Suraj's outright ways and asks Mahesh (Johnny Lever) to keep an eye out for him.
However when the 'player' stumbles upon Komal Sinha (Twinkle Khanna) he realises that this time his love is for real. Komal, on the other hand will have none of it and is not prepared to risk her happiness by marrying an unfaithful, spoilt brat. To prove his love for her Suraj does really mend his ways which forces Komal to reconsider the proposal. She accepts but just as all is going well, Suraj's past catches up with him. His child (Aditya Narayan)from a former affair ends up at his doorstep. How Suraj is torn between his love for Komal and the pressures of fatherhood form the crux of the story...
Though the screenplay is patchy in places the film successfully blends in commercial as well as meaningful cinema.
Deepak Sareen manages to extract good performances from the whole cast. Salman Khan, fresh from the success of 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya' is a pleasure to watch on screen. His performance looks as though he performs with effortless ease. He shines in the comedy as well as the serious scenes. Success has eluded Twinkle Khanna uptil now. But this time around she looks fresh and chips in a convincing performance. Aditya Narayan is going to be a sought after child artist - he is excellent as the free spirited and cunning Kabir. Johnny Lever is restrained and is much more likeable as the hero's 'chamcha' - his role has shades of seriousness rather than the usual bufoonery we're all used to. Anupam Kher yet again proves what a brilliant actor he is - he's great as the open minded yet concerned dadaji. Namrata Shirodkar in a guest appearance makes an impact with her short yet good cameo.
Cinematography by Manmohan Singh is good the music by Jatin - Lalit is one of the strong points of the movie with chartbusters like 'Chal Pyaar Karegi' and 'O Jaana'.
All in all its a movie for the whole family to enjoy - a great effort on the whole.
