Harley sat on the edge of my bed watching me walk back and forth, putting my clothes and accesories in a duffle bag. "Please don't pout,
Harley" I said.
"Who's pouting?" He asked. I just don't see why they get you for all night tonight and all day tomorrow." I sighed. This was the hardest
part about dating Harley Kiner. He doesn't like my friends and my friends don't care too much for him either. Dividing my time between Harley
and my friends was so hard. And it was getting harder and harder with each passing day.
"I'm sorry," I said as I placed my hand on his
cheek. "But Topanga, Angela and I haven't had a girls night in for a long time now."
"And tomorrow?" He asked. I smiled, how quickly they forget.
"As I recall, you have your own plans for tomorrow." A small smile spread across his face along with a look that said 'oh, yeah'. "But tomorrow
night, I am all yours. He took my hands in his and looked me in the eyes.
"I'm holding you to that," he said. I nodded slowly as I kissed him. Despite everything, I knew I loved him. I pulled away a few seconds later,
not wanting to start something we couldn't finish. Standing up again I began to finish packing my duffle bag. "Are you sure you don't want me
to take you to Topanga's?" He asked.
"No, it's okay." I said. "But thank you."
"I'm trying, Sarah, I really am." I looked at him and I nodded. I knew he was. But he wasn't going to try too hard and neither were my friends. I
had come to accept that, as much as it pained me.
"I know. You've been very...well....I haven't heard as many complaints in the hallways of John Adams I said." Harley smiled and then stood up
and pulled me to him.
"Did you ever think that you and I would have lasted this long?"
"No," I said honestly. "When I agreed to that first date, I did it to get you off my back." I looked up at him and kissed him again. "I never would
have even considered the possibility that I would fall in love with you."
"Well, your parents and your friends wish you hadn't." He said. He pulled away for a second and looked at me. "I know what kind of position
being with me puts you in and I want you to know that if it gets too hot, the door is always open." I stared at him for a second. What exactly
was he saying to me? Did he really think that I would have stuck it out this far just to up and walk away? I pulled him gently back to me and
looked him in the eyes.
"Hey, if I wanted to get out I would have been out. A long time ago. The question is, do you want me out?" I looked at him and studied
his face, watching for his reaction.
"I love you, Sarah." He said and I gasped softly. He had never said that to me before. Usually his phrases of choice were 'ditto' and 'me too'.
"And I don't want you to leave me. I'm just saying I'll understand if you do."
"Well, I'm not going anywhere so do me a favor. Shut up and kiss me." Harley smiled at me and happily obliged. A few secons later he broke
the kiss and checked his watch.
"What time are you supposed to be there?" He asked.
"Uhm, 6:00." I said.
"Well, I hate to tell you this, but it's 6:20."
"It is?!" I said. "Great, I'll never hear the end of it from Topanga and Angela." I took one last look around my room, mentally trying to
decide whether or not I had forgotten anything. Then I moved to my duffle bag and zipped it shut. "I'd better get going" I said. He nodded,
putting on his coat and picking up my bag for me. When we were outside he handed my bag back to me and asked me one more time if I
wanted a ride.
"It's cold out, Sarah. Are you absolutely sure?"
"I'm sure. But it's sweet of you to worry about me." He got on his bike and kissed me once more.
"I'll call you tomorrow when I get home."
"Okay. Have fun tonight." He said as he turned on his bike.
"You too," I said. He put his helmet on and took off. I waited until he was out of sight before I left.
~~
Twenty minutes later I arrived at Topanga's. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. A few seconds later she answered. "Hey there,
Sarah. Nice of you to join us." She said with a grin.
"Very funny. I'm sorry I'm late" I said. "I take it that Angela is here?" Topanga nodded as I stepped inside and she closed the door behind
me.
"She's in the kitchen. We ordered pizza and she's timing the pizza guy." I grinned. That was indeed typical of Angela.
"How much more time does he have?" I asked.
"Ten more minutes," she said as we headed into the kitchen.
"Well, it looks like I got here just in time for the big countdown," I said to Angela as I walked into the kitchen. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Hey, I'm not going to pay them if they come here late. If they say 30 minutes or free then it should get here in 30 minutes or its free."
"True. Very true." I said as I sat down at the kitchen table. Angela looked at me for a second and then sat down across from me.
"What took you so long to get here?" She asked. "Making out with Harley Kiner?" I gave her a look.
"No. As a matter of fact we --" I was interrupted by the doorbell. Angela jumped up and grabbed the money.
"Pizza's here!" She said as she ran for the door. Topanga and I just looked at each other and laughed.
An hour later we were sitting in the livingroom looking at the empty pizza boxes before us. Somehow, the three of us managed to completely
finish off two large pizzas. Not to mention all the soda we drank as well. Topanga and I stretched out, resting against the coffee table, two
huge pillows behind our backs. Angela looked over at us and let out a groan.
"Ugh, I don't think I'll ever eat again" she said sprawling out on the floor of the livingroom. Topanga and I nodded our agreement. We had all
made pigs out of ourselves, but it had been a lot of fun. Topanga stood up and stretched.
"Okay, what next?" She asked.
"I don't know," I said. "Anyone want to play a game?"
"That sounds good," Angela said. "What game did you have in mind?"
"How's about Truth or Dare?" Topanga asked with an evil grin. Angela giggled and nodded her approval.
"That sounds good to me," she said. "Can I go first?" Topanga and I looked at each other and nodded. "Ooooh, good." She said. "Topanga,
truth or dare?"
"Uhmmmmm truth." Angela rolled her eyes.
"Okay, if you weren't going out with Cory, is there any guy in school that you would go out with?"
"Right now? Nope" she said with a grin. I looked at Angela who didn't look to happy and I had to laugh.
"Don't look so smug, Sarah" Topanga said. "You're next."
"I am?" I asked. Oh great. I could just tell where this was going to go.
"Yep. Truth or Dare?"
"Truth."
"Are you in love with Harley Kiner?" She asked. I sighed. I knew what she wanted me to say, she wanted me to say that I wasn't in love with
him and that it was just a fling. But I couldn't say that. Instead, I nodded my head.
"Yes, I am." I looked at Angela and Topanga who were staring. I knew I had shocked them. "Guys, I know you don't like him and I don't blame
you, but I love him."
"Sarah, look I don't like him. I probably never will." Topanga said. "But, if he is part of your life, then...I accept him."
"Thanks Topanga" I said. I looked at Angela. She sighed and then gave me a hug.
"I won't ever be his friend," she warned. "But, I'll be civil to him."
"Thanks, guys."
~~
Two hours later, we sat engrossed in a movie. For the first time in hours, we were absolutely silent. Although, looking back on it, I guess the
fact that we were watching "Armaggedon" with Ben Affleck in it, had something to do with. However, we were so quiet and so into the movie
that we nearly jumped out of our skin when the phone rang. "It's a good thing we're not watching 'Scream'," Topanga said jumping up to grab
the phone. Angela and I murmured our agreement as I reached for the remote control to pause the movie. Suddenly, Topanga looked at me,
her face white. "Sarah? It's Harley's sister, TK."
"TK? Why would she be calling me here?" I said aloud. Why would she be calling me at all? I wondered. I knew TK rather well because she
was Harley's sister, but we had never been extremely close. Standing up, I took the phone from Topanga. "Hello?" I said.
"Sarah? It's TK. Harley's sister."
"Hey, TK. What's up?" I felt myself start to panic. I don't know why, but I read something in her voice. Like something was wrong.
"It's Harley," she said. "He's been in an accident," she said, trying to stop herself from breaking down into tears on the phone. My heart
began to pound.
"Omigod...is he...is he....okay?" I asked, my voice shaking like crazy and the tears building up so fast that I thought they would spill over
immediately.
"I don't know," she said. "Ma just got the call about 20 minutes ago. She waited for me to get home. She told me to call you," she paused. "I
guess she figures that Harley would want you there." I nodded, the tears silently streaming down my cheeks. Harley was hurt and in the
hospital. Oh my God. What was I going to do?
"What hospital is he in?" I asked, grabbing a pen and a paper off the table. Topanga and Angela were watching me intently. They both knew
that something was horribly wrong.
"Philadelphia General" she said. "Listen, I gotta go. Ma wants to get to the hospital. Are you coming?" She asked.
"Yes. I'll be there as soon as I can," I said. "TK?"
"Yeah?"
"He'll be okay," I said.
"Yeah, I know." She said, not sounding convinced. "Bye."
"Bye."
I hung up the phone and looked at Angela and Topanga. Topanga stood up and came over to me.
"What happened?" She asked. She knew better then to ask me if everything was okay. It was obvious that everything was far from
okay.
"Harley was in an accident. On his motorcycle, I guess." I paused. My voice sounded strangely calm, even to my own ears. I felt myself going
numb. "Anyhow, he's at Philadelphia General, and I have to get there." As I talked I headed for
the closet and grabbed my coat. I was on automatic pilot. I was going to do what I had to do. I would not allow myself to fall apart.
"Wait, we're coming with you" Angela said, jumping up. "Lucky for us, I have a car." I looked at Angela and gave her a quick hug.
"Thank you for coming with me," I said. "Both of you."
"No problem," Topanga said grabbing her keys and locking the door behind us. "Let's go."
~~
We got to the hospital fifteen minutes later. I took a deep breath and tried to steady myself before we went in. When
we walked in, I saw TK sitting in one of the chairs looking a little flustered. I ran over to her. "How is he?" I asked.
"Okay," she said. "I just saw him a few minutes ago."
"What happened?"
"He was on his bike and I guess he was going a little too fast. He skidded on some black ice."
"Oh my god," I gasped. "What's wrong with him?"
"The doctor said that he has a mild concussion and that he's pretty banged up."
"No internal injuries or broken bones?" I asked. She shook her head.
"No. None that I know of." I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh good," I said as I sank down into a chair. Topanga and Angela sat next to me. They both had kept very quiet since we had gotten here. I
turned to them and tried to smile. "Guys, I really appreciate you being here. I know this isn't easy."
"It's no problem, Sarah." Topanga said. Angela smiled at me.
"You'd do the same for us" she said.
I nodded. A few minutes later, Harley's mother came out. I stood up and walked over to her.
"How is he?" I asked.
"He's unconsious, but he's stable" she said. "I think that once he knows you're here, he'll be fine." She smiled at me, and tried to put on a
brave front, eventhough I could see the tears shining in her eyes. This was the part that everyone forgot about when it came to Harley. They
forgot that he was someone's son, he had a mother who cared about him and worried about him. I hugged her quickly and then led her to a
chair.
"Ma, maybe we should go. Sarah's here now, and you need to get some sleep." TK said.
"Are you staying with him for the night, Sarah?" Mrs. Kiner asked me. I nodded. As long as I was allowed, I would be there.
"All right," she said. "Let me just go back in and say goodnight. You don't mind waiting another minute, do you Sarah?"
"Of course not," I said. "Take your time." She nodded, then headed back to Harley's room. When she was gone I turned to Topanga and
Angela. "I'm sorry that I can't finish our girls night in," I said.
"Don't worry," Angela said. "We understand."
"And don't worry about tomorrow," Topanga said. "We'll cover for you with Feeny." Tomorrow. I had completely forgotten all about it.
Tomorrow was homecoming and Cory, Shawn, Topanga, Angela and I were supposed to work the booth for the junior class. I knew I couldn't
go. "Uhm, if you guys want to leave, I understand."
"Are you sure?" Topanga asked, standing up. I nodded.
"Yeah," I said. "I'm going to be in Harley's room for the rest of the night and there's no sense in the two of you being up all night with me."
"All right," Angela said. "But, we'll be back tomorrow with your clothes."
"Thanks guys," I said again as I hugged them both. "Tell Shawn and Cory that I said I'm sorry about tomorrow."
"Please," Angela said. "If that were Shawn in there, I'd be doing the same exact thing. Go and take care of your man." I smiled at her, she
had a knack for cheering me up. I was about to respond when I saw Mrs. Kiner come out of Harley's room. "All right, Topanga and I are out
of here. Bye."
"Bye, guys" I said as they walked out the door. When they were gone, Mrs. Kiner came over to me. "Everything okay?" I asked.
"Yes, he's consious, although he keeps falling in and out of sleep. The doctor says that's okay, as long as he's woken up every two hours or
so, to make sure he doesn't..." she stopped, her eyes filled with tears. "Doesn't fall into a coma." I nodded.
"Mrs Kiner, if you want to go home and get some rest, go ahead. I'll be here all night with him and I'll call you if anything happens." TK stood
up and approached me and her mother.
"Ma, you said you were going to go home." Mrs. Kiner nodded.
"I know, TK" she said. "Sarah, are you sure your up for it?"
"Yes," I said. "I know that I won't be able to sleep tonight anyway. Not when Harley's in the hospital." I looked at his mother, wanting
desperately to take her pain away and knowing that I was doing as lousy job of it. "Harley's in good hands here," I said.
"I know. You always take such good care of him. That's why he loves you so much." I blushed, I wasn't talking about me, but I was flattered by
the fact that she said that.
"Well, I love him too, Mrs. Kiner," I said. "I just want you to know that."
"I do. Believe me, I do." She paused. "I never really liked any of Harley's girlfriends before. And then he started talking about this girl named
Sarah. And I thought she was too good to be true, until he brought you home that first night. It was then I realized you were everything he said
you were." Again I blushed. What exactly did Harley say about me, I wondered. I was about to respond but TK took her mother's hand. I could
tell she really wanted to get out of there. Not that I blamed her. Hospital's were a scary place sometimes. "Okay, Sarah. We're going to go.
But we'll be back in the morning." She paused. "Take care of my boy."
"I will," I promised. She smiled at me one more time and then turned and left with TK. As soon as they were gone I turned and walked in to
Harley's room. I stood by the door and just stared at him. He looked like he was resting comfortably and his face had no bruises on it,
although I'm sure there were some painful ones somwhere. I walked over to his bed and watched him for a second. He must've sensed my
presence in the room because he stirred a bit and then opened his eyes.
"Hey..." He said, weakly.
"Hey you...how do you feel?" I asked.
"I have a headache," he said. He looked at me with such a pitiful puppy dog face that I almost couldn't take it. I pulled up a chair and sat down
next to him. "I'm glad you're here though."
"I wouldn't be anywhere else," I said honestly. "Have they given you anything for the pain?"
"I'm not sure," he said. "I think so though. I feel a little groggy." I took his hand and laced my fingers through his.
"Go to sleep then," I said. "I'm not moving and I'll be here the whole night if you need me."
~~
For the next two hours I sat next to his bed and watched him sleep. While I was looking at him, I was saying a silent thanks to whomever or
whatever it was that had saved Harley's life. This accident could have been so much worse. He could have...I didn't even want to think about
what could have happened. I was just so happy he was still here, with me and still himself. Checking my watch, I realized that it was time to
wake him up. Standing up, I gently caressed the side of his face and called his name. "Harley...it's time to wake up....Harley..."
"Mmmmmm" he stirred and opened his eyes. "Has it been two hours already?" He asked. I nodded yes.
"I'm sorry that I had to wake you up..."
"It's okay," he said. He was about to close his eyes again when the sound of footsteps entering the room made him more alert.
"Hello there, Mr. Kiner" his nurse said. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired."
"Do you hurt anywhere?" She asked, while checking his blood pressure. Harley nodded.
"My head hurts and I feel sore all over." The nurse nodded sympathetically.
"That's to be expected," she said. "You had quite an accident earlier this evening."
"I don't really remember...."
I tightened my grip on Harley's hand, involunatarily. The idea of the accident still scared the life out of me.
The nurse looked at me and smiled.
"Is this your sister," she asked. Harley smiled weakly.
"No. This is Sarah, my girlfriend."
"Well, you are one lucky guy" she said. She turned and looked at me, "I don't know how many people would be here all night, like you
are."
I smiled before responding.
"If they loved their....significant other as much as I love Harley, they'd be here all night, too."
"That's very true," she said. "Well, Harley, you get some sleep. And Sarah, if you need anything, just ask. I'm on duty til seven."
"Okay, " I said. "Thank you." She nodded, then turned and left, closing the door behind her. When she was gone, I sat back down and
grabbed a magazine that had been left on the table near his bed. I was about to start reading when I heard Harley moving around. "Harley?
Everything okay?" I asked.
"I'm thirsty..." he said.
"Okay," I said as I stood up and leaned over his bed to get the glass of water that was sitting there. "Here you go," I said. Harley took the
straw in his mouth and drank. "Okay?" I asked, taking the straw away.
"Yeah," he said. "Thanks." I nodded as I put the glass back in its place. I was about to sit back down when Harley grabbed me by the wrist.
"Hey, where are you going?"
"To sit back down," I said. "I thought you wanted to sleep." Harley shook his head.
"No, I don't want to sleep" he said. "I want you." I looked at him.
"Here?" I asked. "In the hospital?" He nodded. "What about your head?"
"I won't move it...too much." I smiled. I knew that Harley must be feeling better if he had sex on his mind, but here in the hospital? I still wasn't
sure.
"Harley, I..." He interrupted me with a kiss. When he pulled away I was too lost in my emotions to remember what my argument was in the first
place. "You were saying?" I muttered. He smiled and motioned me to the bed. With out thinking, I got on top of him as gently as I could. I
could only pray that no one would walk in on us. Once I was comfortably positioned on top of him, Harley took complete control. He kissed
me again as he began to unbutton my shirt. He took the shirt off me completely and then slowly reached behind me to unbutton my bra. I
could tell that he was in pain, but I also knew it was futile to try and stop him. Once my bra was off he looked at me and smiled.
"You are beautiful," he murmured. I smiled in response and kissed him. Without much thought, I moved my hands slowly down his body, as
gingerly as I could, for fear of hurting him. I reached down to his penis and placed my hand there. Harley groaned his approval. This wasn't
something I did very often. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to making love. "Come here," he said as I inched my way up his
body. He leaned up a bit and took a nipple into his mouth and began to suck gently. I moaned with pleasure has he increased the pressure of
his mouth on me. Reaching down I unzipped my jeans and wriggled out of them as quickly as possible.
"I want you so bad," I said surprising even myself. Harley smiled, he was working hard to bring me out of my shell and little by little I was getting there. Nodding slightly, he slowly pulled my underwear down and his hospital gown up. He then positioned himself so that he was inside me. I was so hot and wet by that point that he had no trouble entering me. Even in his weakened state he was still incredible. With each thrust, I felt myself getting closer and closer to orgasm.
"Ohhhhhh," I breathed. "Right there....yesyesyesyesyes!" Moments later I closed my eyes and began my climax. It was like a huge wave rushing through me and I had to bite my lip to keep from screaming. I was thankful that there were no monitors in his room and that he had a private room. Just as I was coming down I felt Harley begin his climax and I felt his hot cum inside me. The feeling of it sent a shiver down my spine.
"Thank you..." Harley said, panting.
"For what?" I asked as I leaned back down to kiss him. When I pulled away he smiled at me.
"For making me feel much better, you are the only medicine I need."
I smiled. This was the Harley Kiner I loved. Not the Harley Kiner that roamed the halls of John Adams High and drove Mr. Feeny to the brink of retirement. "Well, Mr. Kiner, your medicine is telling you that you have to get some sleep."
"Oh man," he said. I giggled as I struggled off the bed and tried to find my clothes. "Maybe you should stay like that," he said.
"And then you woke up," I said as I slipped into my underwear and grabbed my bra. I did not want to be caught naked by his nurse. He smiled and watched me get dressed. Once I was fully clothed I leaned over and kissed him again. "Get some sleep, okay?" He nodded. "I'll be here all night, if you need me." Harley grinned. "Not like that. Not tonight at least. You had your fun for tonight, now you rest."
"Okay..." he said, his eyes closing and opening repeatedly. I didn't answer, just fixed his blanket and turned out the light. I sat down, took his hand in mine and watched him sleep. Looking so peaceful....
