"Hercules and the Driving Test"
This was an interesting twist on the *takeover* plot. This time Hades was trying to takeover a portion of Tartarus, namely "The Elysian Fields" which is, in the Disney version of the Underworld, restricted from Hades and his minions. Zeus owns this property, and it burns Hades up.
The primary plot revolves around Herc learning to drive. This seems out of place since we've already seen him drive Apollo's chariot (albeit recklessly). In fact this episode marks the third time Herc has handled Apollo's vehicle (re: "Apollo Mission", "Pool Party").
I liked the "Temple of Moving Vehicles" (TMV) reference.
The Sphinx (Wink Martindale) was O.K... Kinda silly.
Riddle: "What is it that A man does standing up, A woman does sitting down, And a dog does on three legs?" Answer: "Shake Hands"
It was probably good that Disney played the answer right away, as the baser answer was lingering in the back of people's minds. Of course, modern common society is not used to the "woman sitting down" reference, since we probably associate it more with "old school" thinking (which could therefore be the what the gag was going for in the first place).
TRIVIA: This riddle was similar to the original one posed to Oedipus by the Sphinx:
"What creature has only one voice, walks sometimes on two legs, sometimes on three, sometimes on four, and which, contrary to the general law of nature, is at its weakest whien it uses the most legs?"
The answer is 'MAN' (who as a baby he crawls on all fours, then walks on two legs, and ends up supporting himself on a stick).
I was a bit confused by the scene with P&P at the TMV since the cleck relieved them for a break I really expected it to be revealed that he was actually Hermes.
Another episode with City State Trooper Chippicles. :-)
This was a *fair* episode.
