NOTE: IT IS BEST TO VIEW THESE IMAGES AT 16K COLORS OR HIGHER

These are 3 shots I captured with the Ricoh 18h The first two are outside shots with and without image stabilization on. The last shot is my son. I tried to duplicate the earlier shoot.

Image Stabilization on (camera mounted on tripod.)

Without Image Stabilization (camera mounted on tripod.)

I seem also to be getting a little noise (visual tearing) at the bottom of the print (note the white streak below and to the right of the tree trunk...right near the bottom edge of the image.) I will clean the heads and see if that improves the image quality.

Several people have suggested using a video camera for captures vs. a digital camera. For a comparison of this capture to a VGA resolution digital camera (Minolta Dimage V) look here.

My son. This is supposed to be similar to earlier shot. I'm not sure if the lighting is the same. I will experiment more.

Capture from Ricoh 18H Hi8. Picture is dark, more grainy then RCA (but much less grainy than Sony TRV)...also, blue is blue!

Capture from RCA Pro8. Picture is slightly yellow but smooth and appealing fleshtones.

Capture from Sony TRV series Picture has more detail but with the detail comes graininess and cold incorrect colors (the blue turned torquoise.)

I'd like feedback on the Ricoh 18H and its twin the Sony TR-101. Does anyone know the CCD size. I suspect it is smaller than the RCA's (maybe 1/3" vs. 1/2"?)

Also I find the low light capability of the Ricoh to be rather dissapointing. Even when I switch to manual mode and turn the exposure all the way open I get dark shots indoors. Interestingly when I first turn on the camera, as the image flashes onto the viewfinder, it is bright. But, in less than a second, it settles into a dark image.

I noticed some tearing artifacts at the bottom edge of the image. This was much worse with image stabilization off. I need to play with this more but could something be wrong with this particular camera? Could this also be effecting its low light ability?
