NOTE: IT IS BEST TO VIEW THESE IMAGES AT 16K COLORS OR HIGHER
Here are a few attempts to photograph the planets with a Nikon Coolpix 900 through the eyepiece of a Celestron C8 at 240X. Actually, the only two planets with any possibility of being photographed when I was out were Jupiter and Saturn (Mercury, Mars and Venus weren't visible at night when I took these shots.) These shots were taken handheld. I'm going to try again with a tripod to see if I can improve them.
Biggest in solar system. Also, biggest size and 2nd brightest (after Venus) when viewed from earth. Jupiter had two of it's moons perched right beside it for these shots. I could clearly see them in the LCD screen but they aren't there with the shots :-(
...and another attempt with the camera locked onto a tripod.
Can't believe I got this at all.
These shots have been cropped from 1280x960 original pics (lots of black space removed.) Otherwise they are exactly as taken.
Bryan Biggers did a little bit better job of photographing Jupiter with his Coolpix. Check out his shots under his "Telephoto" section at his website.
