NOTE: IT IS BEST TO VIEW THESE IMAGES AT 16K COLORS OR HIGHER
I found these lens in the clearance bin at my local photo store. A Raynox 2X, a Lenmar 3X and a Star-D .5 wide angle. The whole lot cost $55 bucks so I figured what the hey. Here are the results of taking pictures through these lens. The wide angle and 3x are huge and not exactly condusive to carrying around in one's pocket but they do give the camera a rather impressive look. To give you an idea of the scale I included the infamous film canister lens cap in the lower righthand corner (the rings are adapters for different filter sizes.)
The "tiny" Raynox 2X....and the considerably less tiny Lenmar 3X
Starting from most wide angle to least, here are the pics (all taken standing the same distance from the flower.)
(19mm effective 35mm equivalent) .5 wide, camera at widest angle. Shutter speed = 1/138, aperature = f4
(38mm effective 35mm equivalent) camera at widest angle. Shutter speed = 1/141, aperature = f2.4
(53mm effective 35mm equivalent) This is the setting you get when you turn the camera on. Shutter speed = 1/114, aperature = f2.6
(115mm effective 35mm equivalent) This is using the full optical zoom. Shutter speed = 1/46, aperature = f3.6
(230mm effective 35mm equivalent) This is using the Raynox 2x at full optical zoom. Shutter speed = 1/31, aperature = f3.6
(345mm effective 35mm equivalent) This is using the Lenmar 3X at full optical zoom. I had to switch to macro mode to be able to focus this close with the Lenmar. Shutter speed = 1/25, aperature = f3.6
I was pleased with the results from the results from the 2x and 3x. There is some nasty stuff going on around the edges of the wideangle lens shot. I can't imagine that Nikon's own wideangle is any bigger so I need to recheck to see if I held it centered well.
