      AUDITIONS

The Shaw Festival holds general auditions for both equity and non-equity actors for both dramatic and musical roles. Auditions are usually held in Toronto in the fall (October or November) and in western Canada in early winter (January or February).
      2001 Season auditions - Toronto: October 18, 19, 20, 2000 (DRAMA); October 30 and 31, 2000 (MUSICAL). Vancouver: dates to follow.

If you wish to be considered for the next set of auditions, please submit a letter indicating union status and category (musical or drama), as well as a photo and resume by September 1. Send your package to the attention of Christopher Newton, Artistic Director at the address listed above.

Candidates for an audition will be selected from the resumes received and contacted with an audition date, time and location.

Audition requirements: Equity Drama - 2 contrasting pieces, your choice; Non-Equity Drama - 1 piece, your choice; All Musical - 1 drama piece, your choice, plus 2 contrasting songs, preferably an up-tempo and a ballad. At least one song should be a traditional musical theatre piece - ie. Gershwin, Porter, Coward, Rodgers and Hart, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe. The second song need not be traditional musical theatre - it need not even be a musical theatre song - but keep in mind that contemporary pop/rock music and musical scores influenced by pop/rock music are not very useful to us. Opera is also discouraged. Operetta is fine but singers are encouraged to approach operetta selections with a musical theatre style versus an opera style. An accompanist will be provided but please bring your own music.

Further inquiries can be e-mailed to Janet Hanna at shawadmn@shawfest.com or by telephoning (905) 468-2153, extension 204.
