...........................Dana............................................Lu.....
Each episode has several medical dramas unfold and are solved by the two doctors, even thought their method of treatment are sometimes controversial . The show primarily deals with women's issues and health situations. Occasionally a man is brought in as part of the problem, or part of the solution.
In "Second Look" we have a woman, a former beauty pageant winner and friend of Dana's, having various surgeries to maintain her youthful beauty. She asks Dana to perform controversial surgery, and when Dana refuses, saying it is unnecessary, she goes to another doctor , who performs the surgery with disastrous results.
Lu at first mistakes a former drug addict's medical problems as a return to drugs, and prostitution; she is later forced to re-think her diagnosis and tests prove the woman is suffering from Lupus.
In the very middle of all of this, Lu is told that there is a man in an examining room, who "... will only talk to a doctor..." We see "Joe", an obviously distraught man, who nervously asks if it is possible to get an anonymous AIDS test.
...................................................................................
"I pass by this clinic every day , on my way to work ... I know
it
is for women, but I thought you might be able to help me ... I'm
not gay, and I don't do drugs; but.... could you give me an AIDS test?
"
............................."I was in a bar, and I got drunk ... wasted"...............................
Joe is distressed and has trouble continuing his story. Lu tries to re-assure him, and tells him she will do the test. After all, protecting his health, she assures him, will protect the health of any woman he becomes involved with.
Joe dissolved into tears, as Lu comforts him, he tries to smile....
"I ... uh... thought someone here
... might understand...",
he whispers, his voice tight with pain..
