1997 Nationals

1997 Nationals - All-Around
These are just a few highlights from the All Around event.

Rotation 1: Floor Exercise - Score 9.325 - 9th Place
Dominque did well on this event again, but she steped out of bounds on a really
nice first pass. Her next two passes went well with a triple twist and a Rudi into a
layout stepout. Good Job.

Rotation 2: Vault - Score 9.238 - 8th Place
Dominique did better on this event today. First she did a nice Yurchenko
layout with a half, but had a huge step forward. Her last vault was
a nice Yurchenko full with just a small hop back.
Note: Dominique didn't practice the vault for 6 months after the Olympic Games.

Rotation 3: Uneven Bars - Score 8.850 - 9th Place
Since Dominique had a fall on bars the other day, her coaches decided to take some
elements out and added a twist her double layout (for an E element = more bonus points).
She had some great combo's (Gienger into Pak salto). Unfortunately she let go of the bar
too early on her dismount, had to take a bunch of steps forward, and had to put her hands down.
A major deduction right there, but atleast she improved her uneven bars score from the AA prelims.

Rotation 4: Balance Beam - Score 9.400 - 9th Place
Very nice routine! Solid punch front, round-off layout! Nice acro series! Yes! Nique made
the world team!! [She needed a score of atleast 9.125 to make the team]

Results - AA Score 36.813
 VAULT UBARS BEAM FLOOR
 9.238 8.850 9.400 9.325

All-Around - (Day 1) 35.663 + (Day 2) 36.813 = 72.476 (9th AA)

Well, the nationals are over and congrats to Nique for coming in 9th place and for making the world team!
9th place isn't that bad considering that she had so much going on in the last few months... just give
Nique some time in the gym and she'll be back, better than ever.

1997 Nationals - Event Finals
These are just a few highlights from the event finals.

Rotation 1: Balance Beam - Score 8.700 - 20th Place
Once again Domi started off with her shoulderstand mount (The Silivas).
Even though Nique had just a small slip on one of her jumps,
she still did well with a nice roundoff layout. Nice
dismount with a tiny hop back. Good routine but it's too bad she
had a rough start.

Rotation 2: Floor Exercise - Score 9.600 - 4th Place
Since no one was competing at the moment, all eyes were focused on her so
she got all psyched up and this helped her a lot. Her first pass was
nice, and then (2nd pass) she attempted a triple twist, but didn't quite complete it.
For her 3rd pass she did a Rudi into a layout stepout,
and ended with a nice double pike dismount. I believe this
was new music she was competing to.. very jazzy - DM style!
Great Job Dom!

Rotation 3: Vault - Score 9.113 - ? place (I think it was 7th)
Dominique did fine on vault but her start values wern't high.
First she did a layout Yurchenko with a half twist, but had to take a
big step forward (a little over-rotation) and it wasn't as high as it could be.
Her second vault was a Yurchenko with a full twist.. not bad, just a tiny hop back.

Rotation 4: Uneven Bars - Score 8.250 - 12th Place
Dominique didn't do as well on this event.... it was a brand new
routine for her and she didn't have much time work on it. She a a
good start with a few twisting movements above the high bar, but
she had a fall on her transition to the low bar. (With the
deduction and loss of bonus, Nique lost six tenths with that fall.)
She ended with a nice double layout dismount.

Results - AA Score 35.663
 VAULT UBARS BEAM FLOOR
 9.113 8.250 8.700 9.600

After a night of competing, Nique remains in 12th postion after the AA prelims.
She placed 2nd in the Floor Exercise. I think Nique is just having a rough start
because of her new coach/gym and the 5-7-9 deal, with all this going on, it doesn't
leave Nique much time to train. She only had 2 months to prepare
for the Nationals. Well let's just Hope Dom can bounce back cause we know she can.

"Well I'm gonna go out there and try to be a little bit more confident and be a little
bit stronger and more aggressive and to go out there and do to best I can right now..
because it's mt first time out here and I'm not expecting a miracle but I'm gonna
hit all 4 routines next time" - Nique
