AOL-TVGuide Chat with Adrian

As the List Mom for the Adrian Paul Estrogen Brigade put it: "MUCH more fun that the scifi.com one. He was in a playful mood - or was being the consummate actor and faking it quite well.

"My reaction? They better include the rest of that kata on the DVD release!! >;)

"And WHAT baby book?!"

I've added italics and capital I's, but spelling errors have been left in. Hey, it's the ‘net, baby.

AOL-TVGuide Chat - 8-31-2000

TVGLive2: Hi Adrian! Thanks for coming!

TVG Adrian: One day left... and I guess that you're as all excited as I am to see the movie because I haven't seen it yet either. So, let's get started and I'll do my best to answer all the questions I can in the next hour...

Question: Hello Adrian, How are you feeling on the eve on the premiere of Highlander: Endgame? Your fans are very excited about this 2 year process finally coming to fruition. Peace from Nancy

TVG Adrian: How am I feeling? Well... good question. Not sure. I'm guess I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, and hopefully it will be everything that I hope it will be. But, knowing me, I'm a perfectionist, so I'm sure to see things that could have been better.

Question: Adrian, It's good to "see" you. You have said at other chats that you are a perfectionist about your work. Are you ever able to watch yourself on the screen jusr for the pleasure of the story? ~Rennie

TVG Adrian: Not at first, no. The first time I see it, I kind of see all the faults in it. The next time, I'm able to look at it more as a viewer. Then like five years or so down the road, I can look at it in an entirely different light.

Question: I have heard that the new movie is not related to the series at all; is this true and if so, what are the relationships between Duncan MacLeod, Connor, Joe Dawson and Methos?

TVG Adrian: Which order do you want me to answer these first... ? :) The film is very much a part of what the series was, but on a different scale. The relationships that we had in the series are the same, but the one that is different is the one between Duncan and Conner, which I think you will enjoy, because Christopher and I enjoyed playing it.

Question:: In another chat you said Duncan dances a wee bit. How wee is wee? *G*

TVG Adrian:: Oh... very wee... And "wee" being the operative word, which obviously means that it's going to be in a flashback.

Question:: Hi Adrian! Do you know if the kata you choreagraphed for the film made the cut? Look forward to seeing you on the big screen!

TVGAdrian: Only a very, very small piece of it, because there were some problems in the shooting of it, and it didn't fit into the final story.

Question:: Is HL:Endgame more of a traditional "action" movie, i.e. Enter the Dragon, or more computer generated effects, i.e. The Matrix?? If so, did you do many of your own stunts?

TVG Adrian:: Good question. I think it's a mixture of the two. Shooting the movie we knew that we didn't have the 80 million dollars that The Matrix had, so it became much more imperative to have real action mixed with a little computer generated work. And I think from what I've been told, it worked very well. And, no, I didn't do all my own stunts. But I did do all my own swordwork.

Question: We learned from your last "chat session" that you are going to do a movie based on the life of Cassanova; besides the obvious reasons :) what else drew you to this movie?

TVG Adrian: Okay... so what are the obvious reasons? :) What drew me to the role, or to the script, was the fact that he's a very intelligent man and can be played with a lot of humor, very similar to a 17th-Century James Bond. That's my answer and I'm sticking to it... :)

Question: Adrian, you mentioned last night that there were some qualities of Duncan's that you would like to have. What are they and why?

TVG Adrian: LOL... Sometimes his strength and his ability to get involved in certain situations that only he can get into. Plus, his sense of morals. I think they are very hard to live with day by day. One can but try. :)

Question: I saw an episode of Murder She Wrote and you were a dancer in that. Was that your first appearance on television?

TVG Adrian: Noooooo... no. Oh, no, no, no... And it wasn't my first appearance as a dancer either. If you check out my website, you'll see my bio and Murder She Wrote is about halfway down the list.

Question: Adrian, it is rumoured that you have already signed on to do another Highlander film after this one, is that true?

TVG Adrian: Don't you love rumors and how they spread... ? :)

Question: Can you tell us if you're going to write any new books about your younger days.( I loved the baby book). Also any more video or audio tapes in the future?

TVG Adrian: Yes... yes... and yes.

Question: What would you hope to see your fans take away from the movie?

TVG Adrian:: That's a good question. A sense that this was one of the best Highlander films that they've seen. And a fulfillment of everyone's wishes that the relationship between Duncan and Conner was everything that they'd hoped for.

Question:: Adrian - When (and/or how and/or why) did peace first interest you?

TVG Adrian:: The Peace Fund was started in my mind about three years ago. It took a long time to get it going because of setting up the company, and then it's taken a long time to get sponsors and celebrities involved, as well as creating the programs that best matched what I set the Peace Fund up to be. Now we are in our second year, and things are going pretty well, except we still need more sponsors. And I'm hoping over the next few months to have a fundraiser that will really bring the Peace Fund to the forefront.

Question: If you had the appropriate funding, what would be your dream project for the PEACE Fund?

TVG Adrian: Peace stands for Protect, Educate, Aid Children Everywhere. So there would be several different projects that could come under the banner that the PEACE fund stands for. There are many needy kids in this country and around the world, and basically the next step for us is to create a program that comes under the protection or aiding sections of the fund.

Question: Adrian, I see your Highlander character as a very spiritual being, and I think that carries over to life off screen. Am I right?

TVG Adrian: As much as I can, yes. We all have our crosses to bear, and sometimes life tends to throw us a curve or two, which throws you off that spiritual path. The thing to always remember, or at least the thing I've tried to remember, is that goal of reaching a spirituality in my life, to reach peace. As I've said before, the things that happen to us when we are down really define who we are. And you know your true character in those moments. So, always look towards the end of the tunnel. Not to what's in front of you.

Question: How do you feel about your massive online following? Are you surprised at all?

TVG Adrian: Yes. :)

Question: Do you have any plans to do any stage/theater work in the near future? If so, where?

TVG Adrian: I would LOVE to do stage or theatre. Right now, my focus is on films and possibly directing a project that I have in mind. But, as soon as I can, I want to do a play.

Question: Since you have stated that you are a "citizen of the world", and have traveled a great deal. Are ther any areas in the United States that you have not seen that you would like the chance to visit?

TVG Adrian: Oh, plenty I'm sure. I'd love to go to Tennesee, Montona, Oregon... Plus a few that I haven't even thought about.

Question: Was there anything in your own life experience that generated the interest in helping needy kids?

TVG Adrian: No, not really. I just figure that they're the ones who are going to lead us in the future. When I'm dead and forgotten, I want to make sure that part of me is still living in the actions that our future leaders decide upon.

Question: Mr. Paul, could you tell us a little about your sword collection?

TVG Adrian: Yes, I have lots of them... and they're all sharp. LOL

Question: What do you do in your spare time, if you have any?

TVG Adrian: I don't really have a lot these days. But, sometimes I play volleyball. I used to play golf, but this year I've played once because of all the sword work I do. I also read... mainly scripts lately. And the 12 volumes of Cassanova's writings.

Question: What profession do you think you would be doing if you were not in the entertainment business?

TVG Adrian: I'm not sure, to be honest. But, I know I'd love to spend time reflecting on martial arts in the real spiritual sense. And it would probably be something that's teaching kids something.

Question: Hi Adrian! My kids love the series and seem to get a lot out of it. Do you have any children?

TVG Adrian: No. Not yet. Not that I know of... LOL

Question: Hi Adrian!! I recently attended the Legacy convention where all the other cast members appeared along with several other key highlander people. It was my first convention and I was wondering what your take is on conventions.

TVG Adrian: LOL... (drops phone) Conventions are a lot of work. If you can imagine having 1000 or 2000 people constantly vying for your attention, it is flattering yet also exhausting. But, I always try to have fun whenever I do them.

Question: I have tried to email Peace a number of times to volunteer, but never get a response. Any ideas on how to get thru?

TVG Adrian: PEACEfund@aol.com is the e-mail address. That's as much as I can tell you. There are a lot of people who have asked to become volunteers, and unfortunately we can't choose everybody. But, eventually, I'm sure that we will be able to get around to you.

Question: Hi Adrian. Thank you for being here. Could you tell as something/anything about the movie you will be directing on HiDef. Will you be staring in it?

TVG Adrian: No, I won't be starring in it, and I probably won't even be in it. It will be set in the future, and as I've said it's still in the development stage. I should be able to let you know more once things are set.

Question: What is you favorite book and why?

TVG Adrian: I'm a Gemini... how can I answer that question? As in many things, my different personalities get an interest from different authors.

Question: If you have the opportunity to do a play soon, would you prefer to do comedy, drama or a musical play?

TVG Adrian: Maybe a comedy or a drama.

Question: Adrian, I was on the chat last evening and you were asked what the scarest thing you have ever done is and you said "get married". Do you think that you will ever give your heart again?

TVG Adrian: What...? Do you mean to you...? LOL Just kidding... :) Getting married and giving your heart to somebody are two completely different things. I hope that answers your question.

Question: If you could vote in the presidential election, who would you vote for?

TVG Adrian: Bugs Bunny. :)

Question: Adrian, given that Duncan DID have 400+ years to work on it, do you think there is any hope at all for mortal man to learn how to treat a woman, or are we all doomed!?!

TVG Adrian: Well, go see the movie and we can figure that one out... :) Everyone's got a little Duncan in them somewhere...

Question: We've also heard you've been working on writing a screenplay. How's that coming along?

TVG Adrian: I've finished the screenplay, and now I'm in the process of shopping it around. But, even if I don't get it made right now, it was a fabulous learning experience for the NEXT time I write a screenplay.

Question: You used to have Rottweilers, the finest breed alive. Do you have any now?

TVG Adrian: Have a look at People magazine, September 8th. Then ask me that question again... :)

Question: MR. PAUL, YOUR FANS IN ENGLAND ARE WONDERING WHEN THE MOVIE WILL BE RELEASED THERE?

TVG Adrian: So's my mother. :) I have no idea... I believe it's going to be some time later this year, but I'm not sure. I'm looking into that myself, so that I can go over and do some publicity. It gives me a good reason to visit.

TVG Adrian: Lalalalalalalalaala.... just waiting for the next question folks... :)

Question: You once said that misinformation over the internet can be dangerous. What did you mean by that?

TVG Adrian: I mean that when people post things, usually they post opinions, not necessarily facts. Or they post something that they've heard from someone, not necessarily the source. Therefore, the truth sometimes gets buried because nobody goes to get it from the source. That's why I always tell people that if they want information on Adrian Paul, the ONLY place to go is PEACE APFC, which is now under my website at www.celebrityboulevard.com Oh, by the way, everybody, for those of you who have had trouble getting into the website, I am working on alleviating those problems as we speak.

Question: YOU SAID YOU PLAN TO HAVE KIDS IN THE FUTURE GIVEN YOU'RE EXPERIENCE WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM ABOUT FOLLOWING THEIR DREAMS?

TVG Adrian: Never let go of them. So, often, in life, things make us let go of those dreams because we believe there are more important things. However, I believe that if you let go of something that you really want to do, you will always regret it.

Question: Is there anything that you've done, besides "Highlander", that you're particularly proud of?

TVG Adrian: I kind of enjoyed playing on Love Potion Number Nine. And I enjoyed what I did years ago in Bouncers. When I say "enjoy" I mean I enjoyed the feeling I got when I working on them.

TVG Adrian: La lalalalalalalalalala... lots of questions to go through... sorry... lalalalala... :)

Question: We fans are enjoying seeing you get all this recent publicity. Well deserved and a long time coming. How are you enjoying all the activity?

TVG Adrian: It's great to actually do all this publicity and get my point of view across in many different mediums. But I want MORE!!! MORE, MORE, MORE! :)

Question: Hi Adrian! Are you surprised you're such a huge sex symbol to so many women and how do you handle it?

TVG Adrian: I dunno... How do you handle it? :) Sex symbol, huh? Hmmmm... People tell me that, but... ah... I don't actually view myself as that. So I can't really answer that question. I'm sure Duncan could. :)

Question: I saw "Masque of the Red Death" last week. How do you feel about this work?

TVG Adrian: Ah. You did, did you? Oh, dear...

Question: Adrian, was there anything in the Highlander movie that surprised you? thank you.

TVG Adrian: A couple of the cuts I got... they came as a relative surprise... :) Oh, and definitely, one of the explosions during the Quickening. Oh... my....

Question: Do you enjoy being the same things about being an actor now as when you started, or are there different satisfactions/a change in perspective now that you have more experience?

TVG Adrian: I think it's different now. But, I always try to go back to some of the basics that intrigued me in the beginning. That I think was the learning process of developing new skills, and being able to create characters in different ways. Now, I am able to create those characters through writing or directing. And I even went back to acting class a year ago before even doing Highlander, and found that learning process fascinating.

TVGLive2: Thank you Adrian! We are looking forward to the movie tomorrow! Please come back soon!

TVG Adrian: Thank you very much for being here with me.

TVG Adrian: Thank you for the marriage proposals...

TVG Adrian: Thank you for the date proposals...

TVG Adrian: I hope you enjoy the movie.

TVG Adrian: See you all tomorrow night.

TVG Adrian: Peace! AP
