Yahoo! Chat with Adrian!

Apparently, in these chats, Yahoo makes a "slightly psychotic" yellow smiley face in chats. Until I feel like finding one to insert in here, I'm going to leave it as "[smiley face]". Because I'm lazy. Deal. [smiley face]

This is a transcript of the chat as it happened, so all misspellings here are the fault of whoever wrote them. It's not my fault. They told me they fixed it.

Big thanks and shout out to my twin for doing all the REAL work here. You're the wind beneath my wings, baby.

Yahoo Chat - 8-24-00

YahooHost: Okay guys, Adrian is now in the studio and eager to chat.

AP: Hello, everybody! Are you ready for Highlander: Endgame? I know you've waited a long time, but not as long as I did shooting it! Peace.

Grangetown: Good afternoon, Adrian. We are all certain Endgame is going to be a HUGE success. If box office numbers are "healthy", will there be a fifth Highlander film...and with a co-starring role for Peter Wingfield?

AP: Well, the title of the movie is Highlander: Endgame. And people expect, or have been told, that this is the last one. But my answer to it is very similar to what the Wayan brothers said asked about Scary Movie. If they pay enough we lied. So my answer is, depending on who lives.

Gemma_Mac: Will you be using your experience in martial arts to help teach other about it in some way? How?

AP: I have in the works a sword video, which is going to include my path to Highlander: Endgame. It is an amalgamation of all the years I've spent studying martial arts.

YahooHost: How can fans find this video?

AP: As of yet, it hasn't been finished, but if you check the Adrian Paul website at www.celebrityblvd.com, the minute it is available, we'll let you know there.

jinette42: Do you have a favorite scene in the movie and could you tell us what it is?

AP: I think my favorite scene is the rooftop scene between Conner and Duncan. There are many reasons for it: one, because I think it has great dramatic essence, but also because it really sums up the relationship between the two men. And that's ALL I'm going to tell you.

tabbiecat77: What was the most challenging thing about doing Highlander?

AP: The amount of time it takes to put everything together, that everyone expects of Highlander. It has lasted so long, that to come up with new things is always challenging.

mjhoch: Hello, Adrian... Thank you for being here. I was wondering if you would be appearing on any more talk shows to promote the movie.

AP: I will be doing other chats next week at MSN.com and a couple of others.. you can check out the schedules on my website. Plus there will be more talk shows during next week and the following week which will also be confirmed on the website.

abublitz_2000: Adrian, if you weren't an actor, what do you think you'd be doing career wise?

AP: I have no idea. But maybe something with children.

judyc2002: Adrian, do you collect anything that holds a special place in your heart?

AP: Yeah...swords.

msdrm2002: I've read that you're working on a script about Cassanova. Are you planning on doing any work in front of the cameras if the project is picked up?

AP: If the project is picked up, I WILL be Cassanova.

merlange11: Was it an easy transition to get back into the character of Duncan Mcleod?

AP: Yes, it was. My very first scene was with Jim Brynes, so it almost felt like I was on the set of the series once again.

libra2161254: Adrian, thanks for being here. After six years on series and now the movie, which presented the most challenges?

AP: They both had their challenges. But let me tell you - the movie was probably the most challenging project I have ever done.

elizdumas: Adrian, Christopher Lambert says that Endgame is as good asHL1. Is it all you wanted it to be?

AP: I haven't seen the movie yet, but I believe it's going to be mostly what I expected it to be. I am a little bit of a perfectionist, so I will probably never be satisfied.

Lilacs04: What was the most interesting thing that happened on the set of Endgame?

AP: Interesting is a very interesting word. I think there were many challenges and interesting events that occured. The one that comes to mind is almost poking Christopher Lambert's eye out with a wooden sword.

Brutt1: I saw on the Movie trailer a sword which looked like the Wedding sword in the Highlander catalog. Does this mean Duncan is getting married? And what is he doing with that sword?

AP: The sword in the poster is not the sword I used in the movie. Along time ago, I was asked by Panzer/Davis to change my sword midway through the fourth season. I said no then, and I will never change Duncan MacLeod's sword. It just so happens that somebody, in their infinite wisdom, chose to put this sword on the poster.

BithoS1592: What was it that drew you to the character of Duncan MacLeod?

AP: When I first saw Highlander 1, I was always intrigued by the depth immortality could bring. Duncan MacLeod is a renaissance man. He is a lover, a fighter, very cultured... multi-lingual, and compassionate.

velveteendragon: Would you ever consider another TV series?

AP: I would always consider a TV series, although at the moment, I'm not sure that's the way I would like to go in my career. However, the possibilities are always there.

sha8ee: Hi Adrian. [smiley face] My Q: If you could do one project, have an unlimited budget and resources, what would you choose?

AP: Cassanova. [smiley face] No, actually, I have a project that's dear to my heart, that's not been written yet.. that one day, I hope to bring to the big screen. It concerns Italy during World War II.

galadrielgr: can you tell us more about your hi def project

AP: HiDef approached me with a script that has just been rewritten, and I am working out the logistics with them, regarding my involvement in the project.

katidid_0118: Hi Adrian...Now with a taste of both, which do you prefer TV or big screen?

AP: TV pays better, but big screen is where the creativity is. However, I'm not sure I have what it takes to be a movie star. That - only time will tell.

jryuse2000: Adrian, how can I get a PEACE function going here in Columbus, Ohio?

AP: PEACE usually has to deal with all the events because of IRS tax reasons. If you want to *hold* an event there, you should contact the PEACE fund directly. Details can be found on the website: www.celebrityblvd.com/apfc

ishtar_jj: What was it like filming in Romania?

AP: Technically, it was very difficult. But I loved the Romanian people, and realized the suffering they have been through over so many years. I think Romania has great potential, but it has to be taken away from the Mafia bosses who run it.

hilandrfan54: Adrian, what was it like working with Christopher Lambert?

AP: Oh, we had a great time! We didn't stop playing around while we were filming, and I think the comraderie we have as individuals really lends itself to the comraderie between Duncan and Conner. In the movie you will see the progression of their relationship which Chris and I talked about often. From that of teacher/pupil to one of friends, brothers, and then immortals of equal qualities in the present day.

annachie400: Is the Merlin movie you filmed last year going to be released in the U.S.?

AP: I have no idea. I know it will be released in the UK, but as of yet, I have not heard anything about a US release. It is a children's movie, so I believe it's going to be limited to Europe.

ysanne_1: Will there be a "making of Endgame" video?

AP: You'll have to ask Bill Panzer that. Or Miramax.

manolis_varnassinger: andrian did you do all the dangerous scenes in the movie on your own or did you use stunts and let me say that your movie rocks

AP: Thank you, and no, I didn't do ALL the stunts, although I did most of them. Anything where you see me fighting is always me. When it comes to having someone stand in for sword work, it is very hard to find someone that has the same build and moves the same as I do. Besides, I'm kinda stubborn when it comes to that.

immortal857: How much of Adrian is in Duncan?

AP: Well, since Adrian and Duncan did 117 shows together, I would say there are a few qualities that cross over. Duncan is part of Adrian, but not who Adrian is. That - you'll just have to find out when you see more of my movies. [smiley face]

APpup: There were rumors of filming a new ending. Have you seen the completed movie? Are you pleased with the ending? Does it differ majorly from the original script?

AP: The ending is different from the original script, as is a lot of the movie. So any of you that have the pirated version of the script won't necessarily have anything that's in the movie. I haven't seen the final product, nor do I want to before the film comes out. I've even contemplated not seeing the film at all, because I spent so long doing Highlander that I don't know whether I can see Duncan MacLeod (and myself) on the big screen.

heartsandkissesforyou: Did you get to keep the kata sword you used in the series as a keepsake for the many seasons you put in

AP: I'm not exactly sure what you mean by Kata sword, because a kata is a series of movements that you can do with any sword. However, I do have two swords from the series, one presented to me by the crew, and one from the original series.

starchild43_99: Adrian, Your accent seems strange to me , I am british ,but only heard your type of sccent from a Welshman, what is your nationality

AP: I am a citizen of the world. Which world? some people wonder. But my accent comes from being half italian, half english, having lived in the US for fifteen years, and picked up a few bits of Duncan McLeod on the way.

arch_angel_michael2000: What was it like working with Lisa Barbuscia?

AP: We had a great time working together. Lisa would always ask me things when she wasn't certain about some of the rules - the many rules - that Highlander has. But we slugged on and had a great time, and I think she will do well in this movie.

Brutt1: How is your peace foundation going ? How did the charity event go ? Did Chris, Ruth or the edge show up ?

AP: The PEACE fund is growing slowly but surely. The event over the weeken was a great success. It was the largest one we have had up to date, with about 150 children and 5 celebrities in attendance. Trying to pin Chris down for 5 minutes is sometimes an impossibility. So no, he did not make it. Nor did the Edge. By the way, who's Ruth?

gnargle_1: Why does Cassanova appeal to you?

AP: Because he's the 17th century James Bond. I think he, too, has many facets that most people know nothing about. He was very literate, a poet, studied to be a priest, studied many languages, traveled to the many courts around Europe, was responsible for creating the Lottery in France. Oh yeah - and he had a couple of love affairs too.

mol4769: I know that you were in an off Broadway play years ago. Would you ever consider coming back to NY to do another play? NY has changed alot in the past few years!

AP: I love New York, and yes I would love to come back to do more plays in NY. It's just a question of time. And what is being presented to me.

johnsmith192001: whats your favorite martial arts movie Paul?

AP: In the past, I'd say Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee. But I think Jackie Chan has some incredible moves, such as in Shanghai Noon, which I thought was very funny.

etainq: Hi Adrian...what do you think is one of the most important lessons a child can learn from participating in the martial arts?

AP: Discipline. Discipline, and a sense of - if they are taught correctly - a sense of self.

fargonewild: Do you write the skript for Cassanova by yourself?

AP: No, the script was presented to me by John Peters and Brian Mannis. But we knew there had to be some rewrites done, therefore I wanted to be part of those rewrites, so I could include what I believed Cassanova to be.

magicklilly: WILL YOU EVER WORK WITH ELIZABETH GRACEN OR ALEXANDRA VANDERNOOT AGAIN?

AP: Absolutely. I loved working with them.

asha_ca: What was the most profound moment for you during the filming of EG?

AP: Uhhhhhh........ Eaahhhhh.... I have no idea. Profound? That's a little difficult to answer.

snmel: I really admire the work you are doing with the PEACE Fund, can you tell us what inspired you to start it?

AP: When I was doing the series, I noticed how many children admired me for the character that I portrayed. And I realized that if I had such an impact on these kids, then why couldn't other celebrities do the same? I also knew that I wanted to do something to give back to life, if you like, and children are the future. So I decided to create a fund that would marry both these ideas.

happyhartz: What was the deciding factor in closing the PEACE-APFC website?

AP: PEACE-APFC is not closed, as a site. It's just been updated. PEACE-APFC is still under the celebrityblvd.com site, in the fan club section. (at www.celebrityblvd.com/apfc) Now, there are two sites that people can log on to, and get work-related details as well as more personal things that the PEACE site was able to offer.

gnargle_1: Was Love Potion # 9 with Sandra Bullock your first film?

AP: No, it wasn't my first film. But I sure did have fun filming it. [smiley face]

Brutt1: Do you still race any cars ? What kind ? What kind of racing ?

AP: My own car. But they don't take too kindly when I go above the speed limit. [smiley face] Unfortunately, I haven't had enough time to do more car racing, because I'm trying to get my career on track.

melodypierson: What are your thoughts about the advent of the internet?

AP: I think the internet is fabulous place for the dissemination of information. However, it's also very dangerous. You may ask, "Why dangerous?" and my answer is this. People sometimes put out opinions, rather than fact, and from then on, stories are created which are untrue. And there is no policing of this type of information. Eventually, there will be, but right now it is unchecked. And in my view - dangerous.

briar_crystal_rose: What is your favorite past time and/or hobbie?

AP: I enjoy playing volleyball, reading, and ... it used to be golf, but I haven't played in so long, I think I'm going to have to relearn how to pick up a club!

franciscobarrios32817: Has anybody been hurt practicing fighting seens?

AP: Practicing *and* filming. During Highlander Endgame, these were always tricky, and there were some times when some of us got injured.

YahooHost: Did you personally get hurt on the set while practicing fighting?

AP: I had my finger split open - again - on the movie, that I still have a scar from, plus a couple other minor knocks. But I guess that's part and parcel of my career.

skystaff2000: Good evening! What kind of feedback have you gotten from the Smackdown event?

AP: From what I hear, people were pleased to see *anything* with Christopher and I in it. And from what I also understand, it increased the awareness of the fim twofold. So it was well worth doing.

nimnam1592: Honestly, would you ever play the part of James Bond if it was presented to you?

AP: That's an interesting question, and if you'd asked me this five years ago, I would have said absolutely yes. However, I believe James Bond needs a facelift, and I would love to do a character that *I* create, rather than once again following in someone else's footsteps.

claudia_piper: How it's feel to starring with Peter Wingfield?

AP: I love working with Peter. We had a great relationship on the series, and I would always love to work with him in the future.

PookkahMac: Do you find it hard watching yourself onscreen, are you critical of your work?

AP: I never used to find it hard when I watched dailies of Highlander the series but as of late, I have a hard time thinking of watching myself on the big screen.

fargonewild: Mr. Paul, what is your favourite book/author? What are you reading for private reasons at the moment?

AP: I don't have a favorite author, however at the moment, I've been reading eight of the twelve volumes of Cassanova's life, which amounts to approximately 2400 pages. That amongst reading script after script means that I have had a lot of reading to do over the last few months.

coder1258: You used to be model, do you still do it?

AP: Model? Me? Who told you that? Yeah. At one point, I was... but that was MANY, MANY years ago, and now, I have limited my work to acting. However, if you know of anyone that needs a good model, let me know. [smiley face]

mamacincia: My 10 year old daughter wants to see Endgame next weekend. What are your thought on a child seeing it?

AP: That's a tough question, because if I answer that I think she would get a lot out of it, I would be going against the board of censors. There is a lot of the same violence that was in the series and a couple of love scenes, which to me are not offensive, but may well be so to the younger audience.

klhuffwesnetcom: Hi Adrian! So I understand there is quite a surprising ending to Endgame. Such a surprise there is no premier. Will we all be shocked?

AP: I'm not sure what the surprise ending is you are talking about, and to me the ending was no surprise. But... The reason there was no premier is not a question of it being a bad movie - just that this is a sequel, and it was felt in all fairness to producing this film that there would be no prescreening prior to the release.

menthos318_sbu: any reason why elizabeth gracen isn't in endgame

AP: There's no specific reason. I just don't think Endgame is supposed to be a continuation of the series. In fact I think it would be a mistake if that were the case. Jim Byrnes and Peter Wingfield came into the mix because they were essential to the story.

camille_nj: Adrian, since your work has taken you around the world, what are some of your favorite places?

AP: As some of you already know, I love travel, but some of my favorite places are Spain, Tahiti, the Caribbean, and Brazil. However, I know I haven't seen some of the places I'm really dying to visit.

pawz08: What kind of training have you had to prepare for the fight scenes? Martial arts?

AP: For about seven months, or eight months prior to starting the film, I was in training with my sifu (my teacher) who in fact has a role in the movie. On top of that, I worked out for about a year in gymnastics, as well as conditioning my body and mind for what I knew was going to be a very grueling schedule.

niknacs25: What made you decide to go from long hair to short

AP: Well, it's almost the same as if to say: What made you take a bath in the morning? I just needed to. Sometimes it's good to change and give yourself a different perspective. And I think that's true in this case.

appeacesk: Would you consider doing comedy?? you are sooo good at it.

AP: I love comedy. I would love to do a comedic role, but I don't think at the moment many producers see me in that way. I'm just going to have to change their minds.

happyhartz: Is it difficult to act and direct yourself?

AP: Yes, it is difficult. Because sometimes, you don't have a perspective of your own when you're acting, so if I directed myself again, I would like to have somebody there to give me some advice. However, I think it would be a lot easier on the amount of time I spent in a piece, because I also think it is possible to direct and act if you're not in every single scene.

WoOhOoBaBy2000: would you ever be a voice in a disney cartoon

AP: Quack quack! Sure.

Emerald_Eyed_Lady1: Good evening Mr. Paul. What made you decide upon choosing acting as your career?

AP: It paid a lot. No, but seriously... When I had been studying for a short time, I remember being in class and having just finished a scene - I felt as if I had been doing something that I had needed to do for a long time. And I realized that it was the joy of showing a part of myself that I wasn't allowed to show in everyday life. And from that point on - I was hooked.

eric_rr99: Mr. Paul, can you give us an address or phone # to request an autograph?

AP: Sure. Go to www.celebrityblvd.com/adrianpau l - all your questions are answered there.

red21_tx: Was Kallus (probably misspelled) the best villain on the series?

AP: From my point of view, I think he was one of the better ones, but not the best. I think Valentine Pelka as Kronos was also very good.

trishmop: Do Duncan and Connor actually fight together? I thought that was against the rules?

AP: Nobody ever said Duncan and Connor fought together. And as you may have already noticed, the rules are out of the window in this movie.

mhartwest: Will we see Duncan dancing?

AP: Just for a wee bit.

peace22220000: I just saw the movie Convergence, were you pleased with the way it turned out?

AP: No, not really. I found it slow, and I believe that there were some elements that should not have been taken out.

simplmn2: What about working with ROger Daltery? ...WOuld you like to work with him again?

AP: Yeah, I loved working with Rog. We had a great time, and I think we had some great comic elements together.

Howard_35: WHat are your thoughts on a new Highlander series and what format should it take?

AP: I almost think they squeezed as much out of that orange as they could. The well's gone dry on that one. But you never know - There's always someone around that will come up with a fabulous way to enliven the series.

YahooHost: This is the last question so enjoy!

neecee32000: hi adrian! where do you go from here now that the movie is complete?

AP: Hopefully, onwards and upwards to other roles that I can portray as deeply as I did Duncan McLeod. Thank you for your time, coming here and listening to all my babblings. I hope you enjoy the movie Highlander:Endgame. For more information on the Highlander:Endgame movie, visit www.highlanderendgame.com... And as always, you can find behind the scenes information on me and my career on < A HREF="http://www.celebrityblvd.com/adrianpaul">www.celebrityblvd.com/adrianpau l. Peace.
