Europe- Where it all started.
Europe produced powerful rulers. Philip II of Spain was a great monarch during the 16th century, and his great-grandson, Louis XIV, turned out to be a great monarch during the 18th century. Both rulers used architecture to their advantage. They built large palaces to show off their power, but why? What were they trying to prove, who were they trying to reach or impress? What political gain was their by building structures that people still awe today? This is a main focus of the Student/Faculty project at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha this semester. We will take a look at documents from Europe and what leading historians have to say about what took place in Europe, where it all started.
