The most beautiful woman in the world
was born on January 22 , 1965 to acting coach Burt Lane of the Burton Lane/John Cassavetes
Workshop and singer and Playboy centerfold Colleen Farrington. Her parents separated soon
after her birth and so young Diane Lane spent most of her early life being shuttled
between her father's New York apartment and her mother's house in Savannah, Georgia.
Starting at
age six, Diane appeared in several plays including "Medea," "Electra,"
"The Trojan Women," "The Cherry Orchard" and "Runways." Her
big break came in 1979 at the age of 13 when she debuted opposite Laurence Olivier in
"A Little Romance," a role which landed her on the cover of Time Magazine and
forever etched her face in the minds of young boys everywhere, including yours truly.
Francis Ford
Coppola also saw the potential of the girl critics had called a "budding Grace
Kelly," and the two went on to collaborate on the films "The Outsiders,"
"Rumble Fish" and "The Cotton Club" (In 1996, Coppola directed Diane
in "Jack.") After starring in "Streets of Fire" in 1984, Diane had 14
movies under her belt and was in need of a break. She returned three years later (stronger
than ever) and has since completed 22 more movies, making her one of the busiest actresses
in Hollywood.
Diane has come a long way from her role as Lauren, the young girl in
"A Little Romance." Her marriage to French actor and former "luckiest man
in the world" Christopher Lambert ended in 1995, but the two have remained good
friends. Today Diane lives with her 5 year-old daughter Eleanor in Los Angeles.
