The Prisoner of Zenda

Anthony Hope's short but unforgettable saga of late 19th century romance and adventure in Europe is a classic that, like Gone With the Wind, Wuthering Heights, The Wizard of Oz, and Mutiny on the Bounty, was also filmed and as well recieved by a filmgoing public as a literate one. Out of something like a half dozen titles, The Prisoner of Zenda has remained Hope's most popular literary work to this day, and has been not only filmed but a popular play over the last century or so.

Most libraries carry more than a few copies of The Prisoner of Zenda, but you're more hard pressed to find copies of the sequal to this book, entitled Rupert of Hentzau. If you've been having troubles finding either of these titles, or anything else by Hope, please click here to order any books or filmed versions of The Prisoner of Zenda, Rupert of Hentzau, or anything else Hope wrote.

In the meantime, here's a link where you can download full .txt files of his books.

PROJECT GUTENBURG - Catalog by Author - Hope, Anthony, 1893-1933

This link takes you directly to download Rupert of Hentzau, but the links to download other books are there as well.

Sadly, this sequal was not filmed with the 1937 cast of the first part, but after having seen it, one can mentally relive the characters, aged by a couple of years perhaps.
