her mind. She feels it is her duty to teach him to look beyond a persons outside appearance and

Personal History: She was raised on a plantation in Georgia. Her mother was a house slave and
worked mainly in the big house. One day the plantation owner made advances towards her mother
and told her if she did not submit he would beat her and her young son. She did and Bay was
conceived. Her brother is three years older then her and his father was killed by the
plantation owner. Lux then had to become the man of the house and helped his mother to raise
his half sister. He watched out for her as much as he could until he was sold off because he
tried to stop the plantation owner from making advances towards Bay. Lux and Mya (Bay’s mother)
kept her identity as the illegitimate daughter of the plantation owner (John Froud) a secrete
until the day the slaves had been freed. Mya had remarried by then and her new husband had
resented Bay because she was the Froud’s daughter. He let it slip that day in an argument and
Bay left and never went back. She tried to find her brother but was unable to. Instead she
headed out west to find a new start.
