Installation Requirements and Information
Environment:
A clean room with positive air pressure to keep dust particles
away. Floor must be able to support approximately 420 Kg,
930 lbs. Optional FDGR grain reducer and ventilation unit
require 6 units of rack space.
Entry:
Complete unit dimensions are width 1160mm, depth 835mm, height
1900 mm. In inches: width 45 11/16", depth 32 7/8", height
74 13/16".
If doors are not 32 7/8" wide, the control panel can be removed,
making the depth 670mm, 26 3/8" inches. To remove the control
panel: the lower right panel must be removed first. The rear
control panel connectors are disconnected. Remove the Control
Panels and blank panels. Remove the screws holding the control
panel at the base and rear wall in the panel tub.
Power:
One 30 amp circuit breaker for FDL (120V single phase). One
20 amp circuit for optional grain reducer (3 amps) and color
corrector. An additional utility outlet should be provided.
The FDL may be powered by a 30 amp standard 3 prong plug. A 30
amp 120 volt twist lock power connector is recommend for safer
operation.
The FDL power input is on a terminal strip. Strip label
designations, two terminals for each: N for neutral, L for load
hot and PE for power earth. Use both lug connections by pig
tailing the power cord wire.
PE and TE, technical earth must be tied together at the
terminal lugs at the center rear of the telecine. Unless
facility has separate power and technical ground system.
For clean ground, a separate large ground wire should be run
from the TE ground lug to house technical ground.
Temperature:
Room temperature should not be more than 73 deg. Fahrenheit
(24 C). Relative humidity kept between 45 to 55% (noncondens-
ing). The FDL draws air in at the base and exhausts heat thru a
vent on top. The A/C must be able to handle 2KVA or an exhaust
system must be installed to vent exhaust heat.
Over Temperature Closure:
On the power input strip are two terminals labels "F". These
are the overheat-fire closure. It can be wired to sound an
alarm or turn off the FDL.
Cabling:
All cables enter thru bottom rear.
Lighting:
There should be proper lighting in the room. Incandescent
spotlights on dimmers are useful for operation. Fluorescent
lights for servicing both front and rear of the FDL.
LIST OF INPUT AND OUTPUT CONNECTIONS.
INPUTS:
Loop thru Video Reference for genlocking to color black or other
Reference signal.
Two External Audio Inputs. Normally Segmag, reel to reel or
audio mixer outputs. Inputs are on male XLR connectors.
External Audio test input. (Normally not used. FDL has an
internal tone generator. Unit can be jumpered for external tone
input.)
A Four Wire Intercom connector. On a 15 pin "D" connector. Can
be wired for Two Wire intercom by paralleling Mic. Out and
Intercom In on the connector. See FDL manual for details.
OUTPUTS:
Video Outputs:
Four CCVS, Composite Color Video Signals
Two CCVS with Time Code burned into the picture. Characters can
be sized and positioned on Video inserter card. With option TC
reader this display can show foot and frame also.
One set of RGB output signals, non-composite.
Monitor output. Follows R,G,B,CCVS Testpoint selector.
Scope video output. Follows scope Testpoint selector. This
output normally is wired to scope in color corrector console.
SYNC OUTPUTS:
Scope Sync Signal. For Scope Video Out.
Scope Staircase. For Scope Video Out.
Sync Out. For RGB monitor, FDGR Noise Reducer and can be looped
to other equipment as needed.
Sepmag connector. For separate magnetic sound follower and
Lexicon audio pitch devices. Output is on 9 pin "D" connector.
Outputs are: 240 HZ 0 and 90 deg. pulses, These are +5v TTL
signal that requires an external pull-up voltage. In some cases
a optical coupler may be needed between the FDL and the sound
follower. If you find counting errors on the color corrector
when the sound follower is connected, an optical coupler is
needed. This is usually because of ground noise spikes.
Magnatech followers use the 0
and 90 pulse.
Pin:
1 = 240HZ 0 degrees 3 = Lock In, Servo locked.
5 = 240hz 90 degrees 7 = Ground
9 = + 5V power
For 100% accurate BiPhase a after market shaft encoder can be installed. Contact David Sargent 310-996-2725
External 2 is use for color corrector timing.
10 = 24HZ Socket Pulse On older FDLs this is on pin 4 of Sepmag
15 = Ground. power
21 = +5v Power
19 = Fwd/Rev pulse On older FDLs this is on pin 2 of Sepmag
16 = Reset ext. TC Gen out.
17 = FRID 2/3 ID On older FDLs this is on Pan Control PIN 13
18 = " Ground or a BCN
11 = FRI 2V ID out This is on Pan Control on older FDL60
12 = " Ground "
1 Pan ground "
2 Pan volts "
3 Pan Ref. volts "
6Hz Color Frame and IR out:
In and out on BNCs. For Color Field ID. Used for A/B roll change- over timing. See manual for details.
Audio Program Channel One out. Output follows control panel
selector switch. Outputs are on female XLR.
Audio Channel two out. Same as Channel one.
Time Code:
Nondrop SMPTE time code out is provided. This can be
reset and preset on the film timer key pad. Foot and frames
(selectable to frames) are in user bits (resetable only). Output
is on female 3 Pin Din connector. Ground pin 1, output on pins 2
and 3.
Remote Connectors:
Transport Rem1 and Rem2, 9 pin D, serial control.
Power Remote, for above PHILIPS remote Control Panels.(+15v, +8.5, -15V).
Telecine 1/2, for A/B roll of two FDLs. Also some parallel remote
control. Play, stop and play rev. Pin: 5 Play Fwd 6 10 Play Rev. 3 & 16 Ground TE All commands are momentary closures to ground.
Video/Audio remote, 50 pin D, for Gain, Gamma, Blk, Audio Levels,
Contours.... and Control Panel switch modes.
Color Corr. 25 Pin D, for remote of Joy Sticks and Chroma Boost.
Neg Matching, 25 pin D for neg pots.
Ext1 for Color Corrector control of Video.
Test Selector, for parallel remote Test Ponit selector control Panel.
Momentary closures on 50 pin D connector. Not on older FDLs.
Grain Reducer FDGR:
The FGDR interconnects via a large ribbon cable. The control panel in
the FDL connects to the 25 pin D local control. The FDGR also needs
sync from the the FDL 60 BNC
sync out. A ventilation unit (TVU175) above the FDGR is required for cooling.
