ROBERT FRIPP AND KING CRIMSON SOMEBACKGROUND INFORMATION
Few musicians from the 60's have more readily embraced new music than Robert Fripp. His early experimental recordings recording with art-rocker Brian Eno, his development of Frippertronics-a system than enabled him to improvise solos over a looped backing-and his mid-80's work with David Sylvian all testify to his taste for innovation.
Since 1985 when Fripp improvised some breathtaking guitar solos over the film soundtrack Steel Cathedrals, his relationship with Sylvian has matured. King Crimson with a lineup of Robert Fripp, David Sylvain, Trey Gunn, Michael Brook and Pat Mastelotto recorded a album called, "Damage".
Robert's equipment for Damage was a customised Les Paul fed into Roland GP-16 and Korg A2 multi-effects units, then into a pair of TC Electronics TC 2290's with up to 64 seconds of delay and then into an Eventide 3000 Harmonizer.
"I also used a Korg A1 multi-effects unit and programmable footpedal by Ground Control. The guitar isa Tokai Les Paul with a Roland synth pick-up. I used a GR-300 Roland guitar synth for some things. Now my American rig has replaced the Korg A1 with a new Eventide 4000. It's currently a Tokai Les Paul, a Roland GR-300 synth-pick-up and attachment, and a Digitech multi-effects whammy pedal with a Korg A2 multi-effects unit. I got a pair of Tannoy speakers, but on the road I use a Carver power amp to drive a pair of monitors. Now I'm using the Sansamp, the original speaker simulation amp--the size of a Walkman, absolutely stunning, MIDI programmable, 50 user settings, 50 facotry settings-which to a large degree, replace fuzz boxs." quotes from Robert Fripp.
