SOD 11/20/01: Making the Scene

Kristen Alderson (Starr Manning)

Digest: You've been playing Starr for more than three years. Do you remember your first line?
Alderson: Yep. "He stole my crayons." The "he" was Ryan [Marsini], the kid who played River. It was cool getting to say lines -- I liked that it wasn't the same thing over and over again, and I got to have different lines every time I did it. It wasn't like being in the Broadway play Annie, when I played Molly. Now I've played two tough roles.

Digest: Are you a tough girl?
Alderson: In real life? No, no way.

Digest: Do you sometimes feel a little weird saying and doing things Starr does?
Alderson: It feels kind of weird. But it's fun to be the evil one when you get to sneak around.

Digest: We're calling you a scene stealer. How does that make you feel?
Alderson: I don't like to brag at all. If kids come up to me and go, "Oh, you're on a soap opera!" I just go, "Yeah." I don't like to be the popular one because I think everybody should be treated equally, or something like that.

Digest: Is Starr more like Todd or Blair?
Alderson: She's a mixture of both. Blair's mischievous and she sneaks around, and Todd is the yelly type and he thinks he's the top of the world, and that's exactly like Starr.

Digest: Todd sent Starr away to camp this summer. What kind of camper was she?
Alderson: She went to reptile camp. She said [on-screen] that she really likes it when she hears the iguanas eat bugs and stuff. It's gross.

Digest: What type of job does Starr want to have when she grows up?
Alderson: Maybe at a reptile camp. Or she might not even have a job. She might be a bad girl who just wanders around the city looking for trouble.

Digest: What kind of big sister is Starr going to be for her baby brother?
Alderson: She'll like to push him around and stuff. She'll teach him to grow up to be a tomgirl because she said she wanted a little sister so she could tell her how to rip off the Barbies' heads.

Digest: Does anything scare Starr?
Alderson: Her dad, sometimes. But I think Todd is more afraid of Starr than she is of him. 1
