Kassie DePaiva (Blair Manning) ABCTim: Welcome! Today we're talking with Kassie DePaiva, ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Blair Cramer. Ever the schemer, Blair kept Todd's secret in order to try and get what she wanted. Unfortunately, she lost the love of Sam Rappaport once her role in Todd's scheme was exposed. Welcome, Kassie!
ABCTim: Kassie has just joined me. We'll be taking the first question....
Question: What was your favorite Blair storyline to date and why?
Kassie DePaiva: There are a couple. I enjoyed the early Max and Blair and Luna triangle and gambling story. I felt Michael Malone had the best grasp of Blair's character/insecurity. Michael understood Blair's dysfunction and wrote it at many different levels. Even a different side of Blair came out when she hooked up with Todd. I enjoyed the Todd/Blair relationship two years ago before he "died." Lately, I think the Todd/Blair relationship has been a wasted use of their history.
Question: Kassie, what is your most treasured holiday tradition?
Kassie DePaiva: Thanksgiving. I'm big on family and my family is big on Thanksgiving.
Question: Will we ever get to see Blair and Dorian scheming TOGETHER again when Robin comes back full time?
Kassie DePaiva: I would love that. When I went in to talk about staying on OLTL, I said I missed my relationship with Dorian and I missed the interaction with the Cramer women. Blair has more chemistry with Dorian than with any one else.
Question: Hi Kassie are you ever going to sing on OLTL again? You have a beautiful voice.
Kassie DePaiva: I am in the midst of doing a CD. I've recorded one song and am working on another. As for the show, it would have to be character driven and that doesn't seem to be in the works.
Question: Kassie, I love the character of Blair, but are the faces and arm hitting, scripted or ad-libbed? Not endearing at all.
Kassie DePaiva: They are totally ad-libbed. I'd choose scenery if they'd let me!
Question: If Roger Howarth were ever to return to OLTL, would you welcome a storyline with him, or would you prefer that Blair stayed involved with Max?
Kassie DePaiva: I never stopped welcoming a storyline with Roger. We both were verbal about the missed opportunities with Todd and Blair. There's only so much an actor can do. It's up to someone else to make it happen. We wanted Todd and Blair but they wanted a different direction.
Question: Do you feel that Blair's 'love' story with Sam is a rewrite of Blair and Cord?
Kassie DePaiva: Yes, I do.
Question: Hello, I love the scenes between Blair and Kelly and all their little fights! Do you and Gina like doing these skits?
Kassie DePaiva: Very much! Gina is very fun to work with. We always enjoy any of those scenes that we can get.
Question: If you had the chance would you work in a prime time show or would you rather stay on daytime? RJS.
Kassie DePaiva: It doesn't matter what camera is in front of me. I just do what I do. If I had the chance to be on a primetime show that ran for 20 years, I'd probably take it because you don't have to work as hard. But I can always depend on daytime.
Question: Hi Kassie! You are an amazing actress. Would you like to see Blair and Sam together or with someone else?
Kassie DePaiva: Thank you! I don't think Sam and Blair are a good combination. It makes both of our characters very unclear. The characters don't have a strong enough reason to be together. I think it makes Blair look too weak to need a man for her own identity.
Question: I know it's early, but do you think you'll be attending the OLTL luncheon in April? I would love to meet you and James!
Kassie DePaiva: Yes, we always try to make it.
Question: How is it playing in a scene with your real life husband James? Like when you two get to fight! Do both of you enjoy them?
Kassie DePaiva: We have a very good time. There's some fun stuff coming up in the Christmas show that we taped yesterday. I love working with Jimmy. He's one of the finest actors on the show and I'm just very lucky to be married to him.
Question: I realize the Todd and Blair have been over for a long time, but many of us were appalled that Blair's first reaction to finding out Todd had disappeared was to write a public love letter to Sam. Shouldn't she have at least given Todd a little thought?
Kassie DePaiva: Perhaps, but I only play it, I don't write it!
Question: Who is your favorite co-star? Past and present?
Kassie DePaiva: There are many. I enjoy my romantic leads, like Jimmy. I enjoy working with Roger and Robin Strasser. I also liked working with Susan Haskell (Marty).
Question: Who's your favorite character on One Life To Live?
Kassie DePaiva: Blair!
Question: Kassie, will Blair kill Tea soon?
Kassie DePaiva: Do you want me to? I think Tea and Blair will continue with the animosity between them. I think it will continue to fester.
Question: What made you become a actress?
Kassie DePaiva: It was just always kind of innate.
Question: Hi Kassie, I just want to say I missed seeing you at the Super Soap Weekend this year. How is your son doing? Jill from NY
Kassie DePaiva: My son is excellent. I missed everyone at Super Soap. I hear it was a great success. My son is having a cochlear implant surgery next week. We're hoping for the best.
Question: Hi! Who are your best friends on the set?
Kassie DePaiva: Hillary B. Smith (Nora), Bob Krimmer (Andrew), Robin Strasser (Dorian), Laura Koffman (Cassie). The list goes on and on. There's is no one on the show that I don't like.
Question: Hi! What was it like working with Bruce Campbell and in Evil Dead II and did you enjoy making the movie?
Kassie DePaiva: I enjoyed making the movie. Bruce Campbell is hilarious!
Question: Kassie...I honestly think you're the best ABC Soap star. What was your first appearance in a show or soap.
Kassie DePaiva: Thank you for the compliment. My first professional acting job was the film Evil Dead II. Months later, I was cast as Chelsea Reardon on Guiding Light. I did that for four years and four months.
Question: Did you watch One Life To Live before you started acting?
Kassie DePaiva: Yes I did. I watched it a lot when I was in high school.
Question: Hi Kassie, This question comes from Shamona (Remember me from SSW1 & SSW2). I truly admire your acting abilities. Do you have a desire to be in a Broadway musical? Also, you, Jim, & JQ are in my prayers. God Bless you & your family.
Kassie DePaiva: Thank you for your prayers. I'd love to do a Broadway musical at some time in my life. If they can find the time for me, I'd be glad to do it.
Question: Kassie how old is your son now and does he go to the set with you?
Kassie DePaiva: JQ was born May 12. Almost nine months old. Every now and then, he makes a grand appearance at Studio 17 where we tape.
Question: How about singing while Sam plays the guitar?
Kassie DePaiva: It was Sam's song, but that would be nice.
Question: Have you thought about doing any movies?
Kassie DePaiva: At this time, I'm just working on my music outside the show. The good and bad of working as Blair is that it doesn't allow me the time to do anything else. If my storyline dwindles down, I might have the time to look into other projects. I've been working five days a week and there just isn't time to explore other things.
Question: How long have you been on the show?
Kassie DePaiva: It was five years last week.
Question: Are you dating anyone presently?
Kassie DePaiva: My husband, James DePaiva (Max) would get very upset! We have a date night every Wednesday, however.
Question: Does it bother you that Blair seems to be more loyal to Sam than to Todd?
Kassie DePaiva: Yes. What bothers me is that there is no history with Sam and it seems like a forced relationship. That aspect has always bugged me. It bugs me that given the strength of Blair in the past, why would she struggle with a man who doesn't believe her or understand her. Sam doesn't understand Blair at all. That's why she gravitates towards Max. He understands her.
Question: I heard you were leaving the show then I heard you were staying. Which is true?
Kassie DePaiva: I'm happily staying until OLTL decides they don't want me.
Question: Kassie, we love you as Blair...but what hobbies do you and Jimmy enjoy outside of work?
Kassie DePaiva: We enjoy golfing, snow skiing, ATV driving. We also enjoy eating.
ABCTim: We have time for one more....
Question: If you weren't acting what would you be doing?
Kassie DePaiva: Probably being a full time mom.
ABCTim: Thanks for being with us!
