I remember Blair sitting under the Christmas tree after Todd was shot and
presumed dead. She opened a present which contained a tiny diamond bracelet.
On the card that accompanied it, were the words, "To our little star." Blair
began to cry as she realized that Todd had left a legacy for their child, a
name, Starr.
From the moment Starr Manning was conceived, she became a symbol of
Todd and Blair's hopes, their dreams
and their love for one another. The occasion was so momentous to T&B
history that most T&B fans remember
it as the day that Todd told Blair that he loved her. It was the day
that Blair told Todd that she was finally
happy, and then said to him, "Let's do it, Todd! Let's make a
baby!"
A month after Todd supposedly died in Ireland, Starr was born on his
birthday. Things didn't look good for
her because she was a preemy, but as Dorian and Viki both
acknowledged, she was a fighter. She fought to
survive, just as both her parents fight for their own existence.
After Starr's birth, we were reminded in so many
ways that Starr is not just any soap opera child. She has a very
special place in soap history. Starr comes from
the two most prominent families in Llanview, two feuding families at
that, the Lords and the Cramers. Starr
resembles both of her parents, and that is what Todd and Blair both
cling to. Blair looks into the eyes of her
daughter, and she sees Todd's eyes staring at her. I remember her
delight when telling Cassie, "She has
Todd's eyes!" Likewise, Todd is enamored by his daughter's
smile,
which he says is just like her mother's. I
can remember Todd holding his hand out to touch Starr's face the
first time he saw her. He smiled and said,
she looked just like her mother.
As much as I hated Starr Wars, I know that it was all about Todd and
Blair holding on to the best part of
themselves, that part that reminds them of the deep love they shared,
that part that reminds them that there is
hope instead of the unrelenting despair that consumed them both
before Starr's birth.
When Blair thought that she would lose Starr after Todd had
supposedly died in Ireland, she didn't want to
live. Starr gave her a reason to live, just as Starr gave Todd a
reason to go on. When Todd was told that Blair
had slipped into a coma, he said, "I can't lose them both!" The
two
of them meant the world to him. So, out of
desperation and grief, he did what he felt he had to in order to keep
Starr in his life.
Last year, Todd's goodbye speech to Starr revealed what most of us
already knew, not simply that Starr is the
daughter of Todd and Blair, but she is a mixture of them both. Todd
said, "What's your favorite color?" Starr
answered, "Pink!" Todd told her that he was red, and Blair was
white, and that the two of them got all mixed
up, and they made her. That delighted Starr. She knows who she is,
and she knows whose she is. She is the
daughter of the Dark Prince and his Princess, his "One TRUE
Babe," the She-Devil of Llanview. She is, as
her father called her, "Princess Shorty," the little girl who
practically brought a mob boss to his knees; she's
the little girl who recently sent Asa Buchanan into a tailspin. --Lafaux
I remember a few months ago when Blair thought Suzanne had been killed by the mob. That it was so bad that Blair, Starr and Jack had to move into Todd's penthouse. While they were there Blair finally forgave Todd for lying to her about Jack's death. They had made love and vowed to always love each other. They even went as far as to tell Starr that they were getting back together. Todd and Blair had planned the wedding, then Sam showed up with the 'dead babysitter' and told Blair that Todd had planned the whole mob scene so he could get his family back. After that, Blair took the kids and went back to the Cramer mansion. She told Todd he would never see his kids again. Then when Mitch came back Blair thought he killed Todd. She was so worried that something really bad had happened to Todd. If you ask me, I think this is a sign of true love, everlasting love. --Turn3Ti@aol.com
