Abel's Island

Run Time: 30min

Produced and Directed: Michael Sporn

Music by: Arthur Custer

Synopsis:

From the video case: Academy award nominee Michael
Sporn has brought William Steig's lyrical story to life
using stunning full-color animation. Young and old alike
will fall in love with Steig's wonderfully romantic Abelard
Hassam di Chirico Flint, an elegant mouse who, while
picnicking with his beloved wife, Amanda, gets caught
in a furious storm and is swept away to a desert island.
Abel must learn to survive using only his wits and his
newly awakened creativity.
(lovely description borrowed from a book catalog) Steig's
simple tale...is elaborated with subtle beauty: rarely has
so compact a tale said so much, so well, about nobility,
fortitude, steadfastness, love.

My Review:

This is the first voiceover that Mr. Curry did. It is easy to
see why he chose this book to do, it's absolutely charming.
Abel is a showcase of Tim's vast voice ability. When the poor
little mouse grieves for his wife so far away, it brings tears
to your eyes. The combination of the story and Tim's voice is
magic to listeners of all ages.
