LEXX the Dark Zone

[Tim Curry]

This story is so bizarre, that I've borrowed some of the plot
synopsis provided on the LEXX pages.

LEXX (aka The Dark Zone)
The Dark Zone Stories are a new "action-pack" of four darkly comic
science-fiction movies about the journeys of a group of mercenary,
selfish, enigmatic, but likeable, misfits who have stolen "The LEXX",
the most destructive vessel in their universe. "His Shadow", the
tyrannical deity who rules the League of Twenty-thousand Planets,
will stop at nothing to retrieve "The LEXX", including chasing our
heroes into the parallel (shudder) Dark Universe.

Guest Stars Include:
Malcolm McDowell(A Clockwork Orange; If; StarTrek Generations)
Barry Bostwick(Spy Hard; Rocky Horror; Sin City)
Rutger Hauer(Blade Runner; Ladyhawke; Mariette in Ecstacy)

****Tim Curry(Muppet Treasure Island)******

STORY SYNOPSIS:

LEXX is a science fiction series unlike anything on TV
or elsewhere. Storywise it is sci-fi for the Beavis and
Butthead generation. ( OUCH!)

On the tech side, it features the most ambitious computer
animation in the history of television.
The main characters are: ZEV, an ugly duckling transformed
into a statuesque beauty and sentenced to become a love
slave before escaping. She's as hard as nails on the outside
but cotton candy inside; KAI, the last of an extinct race
and a programmed killer for HIS SHADOW, evil ruler of the
League of Twenty Thousand Planets. Kai is handsome, (check
out the hair!) intelligent - and dead for the past 2000 years;
STANLEY TWEEDLE, a former security guard who has a nose for
trouble and usually finds it. He is meek, nerdy but is everyone's
favourite sidekick. His right hand is the key to the Lexx;
790, a robot with a multi-giga memory bank whose one goal is
to make love to Zev, which will be difficult since all
that's left of him is his head.

Episode 1:

(Barry Bostwick)

"I Worship His Shadow": Zev, Stan and 790 manage to steal the Lexx
with the help of the rebel Thodin and make their escape from The
Cluster. Thodin is killed by Kai who is being manipulated by His
Shadow. But Kai retrieves his memory, learns his real identity and
joins the crew of the Lexx. They ram through a fractal core anti-
matter star into the Dark Zone where chaos, depravity and disorder
rule, in their search for a new home.
Barry hasn't worn such a revealing costume since his Rocky days!

Episode 2: (Tim Curry)

"Super Nova": Zev, with help from 790's mega-memory banks, searches
for Brunnis, Kai's long lost home planet in order to find a way to
keep him alive. Stan goes along reluctantly and Giggerota, the
not-so-attractive cannibal, moves in for the kill but goes out with
a bang. Tim plays Poet Man, a holographic librarian, who missed the
destruction of his planet because he was on a major drug toot!

I don't know who wrote the poetry he spouts, but the bugger
should be lynched!

"Dullness.
Ethereal, ephemeral, allegorical
Dull-ness!
The blunted boredom rises from the gorge
of HER insufferable lips
and floats like the tedious feather of a
long dead bird
until it lands
naked with tired memory
next to your fleshy feet
Ha!
oh, but she's gone now
away away
like all the others
away away ..."

"Only I, Poet Man, have chosen to stay".
(less grand)
"Okay, so it wasn't exactly a choice. But
be that as it may, I welcome you,
travellers, to the ride of the century-
the Memory Chambers of the Brunnen-G!"

"Days filled with whispers and murmur
and moans, nights filled with longings
and leavings alone."
(chuckles to himself)
"You know it was my fault after all."
(chuckles to himself)
"I knew we were leaving Brunnis. After
all, the sun was dying. But we had this
farewell party and I did a few Kaboo
flowers and ... well, you know those Kaboo"
(he hops)
"Boom! One too many and - whoo hoo! You
wake up four days later and the whole
planet's empty!
And then like the singing of a sad
silent song, you awaken from slumber."
(whispers)
"And everyone's gone."

Episode 3:

(Rutger Hauer)

"Eating Pattern": The Lexx sets down on a garbage
planet in order to feed. Stan, Zev and Kai make the mistake
of getting out to look around. Stan is soon up to his neck,
literally, in trouble and Zev is on the way to being
liquified but Kai saves the day.

Episode 4:

(Malcolm McDowell)

" The Giga Shadow": Kai's time is up unless Zev
can find a new supply of proto-blood to keep him alive. The
only source is back at the Cluster which is headquarters for
His Shadow, evil ruler of the League of 20,000 planets. Stan
wants no part of this near-suicide mission but Zev and Kai
plunge in to do battle.

The January '97 edition of 'Cinefantastique' has a great article
on the show, and also a great pic of Tim, which I've used above.

There is a nutty site for the show at LEXX
It's a bit rude, so don't let your Mom catch you reading it
(Mine would love it!)
