Muppet Treasure Island

[Tim Curry]
Professional Pirate wav format sound file

Review:

For kids, there's Muppet Treasure Island, with that perfect hero,
Kermit the Frog, and that perfect villain, Tim Curry. Brian Henson directs
this musical takeoff on Robert Louis Stevenson's tale of a treasure map
given to young Jim Hawkins, who sets sail with pals Gonzo and Rizzo, plus
Squire Trelawney(Fozzie Bear) and the dashing Captain Smollett (Kermit).
The nemesis: Long John Silver, played, of course, by Tim Curry. And Miss
Piggy's queen of the warthogs. (Des Moines Register)

My Review:

I LOVED IT!!!!!

THIS role makes up for Congo and for The Shadow! Tim looks so
fabulous in this that I was just blown away. When he had tears well
up in his eyes, I had a lump in my throat the size of a boxcar!
He got so many wonderful close-ups! His lovely face was plastered
20 feet high for LONG periods of time.

I really liked the movie itself too, I've always liked the Muppets
and their silly wisecracking humor. The scenery was just beautiful
and so was the music.

Tim's songs were great, we will NEVER get as much as we want of him,
unless he does another show like Blue Money that is designed to showcase
all his talents. His (short) part of "Sailing for Adventure" sounded like
a theatrical production number. He gets to make a Muppet-like wisecrack
about Professional Pirate being his ONLY number. Several of his songs on
his albums have him talking/saying lines rather than singing them, I
wonder if this is coincidence or if the Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil team
intentionally customized the song for Tim?

I like the sound of the whole soundtrack, of course I'm just a big kid,
I love loud thrilling music. (heard "In the Hall of the Mountain King"
at too young an age--blame my father) I like the love theme sung by
John Berry and Helen Darling (whoever they are) much better than by
Kermit and Miss Piggy. The soundtrack is great, it has 'Love Led Us
Here' by those two people and 'Love Power' done by Ziggy Marley.
These are the versions done over the end credits.

Oh, speaking of end credits, I hope you all are the kind of people
who stay for the very last of the credits, otherwise you will miss
a very cute Tim scene.

The soundtrack has all of the loud thrilling background music from
the movie also, I love it!! Tim seemed much more relaxed and happy
doing this movie. I have no idea how much of this is acting and how
much if any is reality. He seemed comfortable with the kid, not like
he was in Big Deals.

Question: where did the glad rags come from?
I liked the glittery head scarf (?) and pirate coat and hat, but
I musta blinked when they first turned up?

I just hope this movie is a big success for Tim. He deserves it so.
