The Rocky Horror Picture Show

[Tim Curry/Frank]

Review:

Delicious send-up of science-fiction-horror flicks, set to rock'n' roll
beat. If you're not experiencing this scintillating spoof at a midnight showing,
you're missing much of the fun. Audience partici--------
----pation (sorry, couldn't resist -LF) is a key, as the prologue on the video
version explains. It's difficult to separate the film from the phenomenon.
Nevertheless, this madcap musical-comedy, often clever, always outrageous,
has plenty to offer, even for the solitary viewer hunched in front of a small
screen.

My Review:

My opinion: watch the video first, then go see a midnight show. The film
is wonderful all on its own and shouldn't be lost in the audience participation.
This is NOT Mr. Curry's favorite film, apparently he has less than happy memories
of fans breaking into his apartment, going through his garbage, and interviewers
bringing up the garter belt and fishnets every time he has new work up for review.
Like it or not, this role is the one that will be in the history books, it (and Mr. Curry)
made one of those 'dents' in culture that will 'go down in history'. Hell, there's
lots worse things to be famous for.
