Jean-Pierre Aumont
(January 5th, 1911 - January 29th, 2001)

Spouses:
Maria Montez: Dominican actress
Marisa Pavan: Italian actress

Biography:
Born to a wealthy French family, Jean-Pierre Aumont followed his actress mother’s calling at the age of sixteen, studying drama at the Paris Conservatory and eventually making his professional stage debut at twenty-one.

His film debut came one year later, in JEAN DE LA LUNE (1931), but his career-making role would come on the stage in Jean Cocteau’s play LA MACHINE INFERNAL, in 1934.

Just as his film and stage careers were burgeoning, Aumont up and joined the Free French forces in Tunisia, Italy, and France, ultimately earning the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre for his bravery.

To escape of the Nazi occupation of France, Aumont moved to California in 1942, where he enjoyed a successful, if routine, film career.

His love life was anything but routine--ever the stylish continental gentleman, the blond-haired, blue-eyed leading man wooed and wed actresses Maria Montez (he was her widower), and Marisa Pavan, and he almost married Hedy Lamarr.

After the war, Aumont returned to France with Maria Montez (his wife at that time), though he deigned to occasionally grace American stages and screens into the 1980s.

In 1972 he wrote the book SUN AND SHADOW and in 1986 he wrote DIS-MOI D’ABORD QUE TU M’AIMES (Say You Love Me). He also wrote the plays THE EMPEROR OF CHINA (or My Name is Aquilon) and L’ILE HEREUSE (The Happy Island).
