Episode 20
Original Air Date: 12/9/94
Written by Henry Bromell & Tom Fontana
Directed by Richard Pearce

Felton and Howard are called out to investigate the battered body of 72 year-old Audrey Resnick, who had her tongue severed and stuffed back into her mouth.  Kay, unable to stand the "stench of urban decay," tells Beau that she's taking a few days off to visit her family in the Chesapeake.
Kay heads out to the oceanside, where she sees three familiar faces: Josh, her brother; Chris Haskett, Josh's buddy; and Chick Tawes, Kay's one-time boyfriend.  Kay also looks around for her father, but the others tell him that he's not a part of their oyster-catching business anymore; Wesley Howard had to sell his boat to the IRS because he was being regulated to death.
The three oystermen head out to ply their trade.  As they try to bring their catch in, they are suddenly stopped by the coast guard sheriff and an environmentalist by the name of Dr. Bradley.  The sheriff informs them that they caught the oysters with illegal devil catchers; he dumps the entire catch back into the ocean.  Later at night, Dr. Bradley shows up at a bar the oystermen frequent and gets into a heated argument with almost everyone there.  Eventually everyone goes home, but Kay is awakened during the night by Sheriff Harlan, who tells her that Dr. Bradley has been murdered.
Lewis and Munch argue over having a television put in their bar; Lewis says that it will attract patrons while Munch says that it will distract them from drinking their beer.  With Howard taking some time off, Felton is partnered with a very reluctant Pembleton.  The two interview Resnick's friend Millicent Harding, who has absolutely no doubt that it was Audrey's grandson Artie who killed her; the murder weapon is found as well with the grandson's fingerprints all over it.  Beau and Frank spend the entire day looking for Artie and finally see him walking the streets at night; they arrest him and close the case.
Kay determines that Dr. Bradley was sliced about 20 times with an oyster knife.  She goes over to Chris Haskett's house and interviews Chris and Chick.  During the interview, Chris shows his unstable behavior by beating up a faulty toaster.  Kay is now almost certain that Chris killed Bradley.  She interviews the bar owner next, who tells her that Haskett did argue with Bradley before the murder.  Finally, Kay talks to Chick and Josh at the dinner table, where it is revealed that Josh had seen a drunken Chris Haskett stabbing Dr. Bradley.  Kay and the local police congregate at Haskett's house, where they find a bloody shirt that Haskett's wife had forgotten to wash.
As Kay prepares to return to Charm City, she tries to console Josh, who regrets having told his sister about Chris; she explains that Chris had murdered someone and that it could not have gone unpunished.  She also has one last talk with Chick, who still have an undeniable bond between them.  Kay, feeling much better than when she arrived, tells Chick to come visit her in Baltimore.
