A teenage boy comes into the squadroom, identifies himself as Lennox Young and goes
on to say that his brother Prescott was shot at a bus stop; Munch, ever the cynical one,
doesn't believe a word the kid says and shows him the door. Kay tells him to check just
to make sure, but Munch doesn't want any of it.
Lewis steps outside the squadroom, where he sees a woman across the street and instantly falls in love with her. She introduces herself as Emma Zoole
of the state's attorney's office.
Pembleton meets Felicity Weaver, a city attorney who tells him that the department is being sued by Anabella Wilgis for $1 million as a result of a violation of her civil rights. Weaver says that the lawsuit may actually go to trial, which everyone
agrees would be the last thing they would want. Meanwhile, Bayliss tells Munch that while all
the paperwork for owning the bar is done, they still need a certificate of
compliance from an alcohol awareness training program, and that Munch is the only one
who is not busy enough to go. Munch eventually does make it, but is thrown out for disorderly behavior.
Sam Thorne, an old friend of Giardello, preaches to Bolander about the importance of
a "Toys for Guns" program he hopes to create, which elicits an apathetic response from the squad. Thorne is appalled why no one else understands the correlation: less guns equals less murders
equals less work for homicide detectives.
Lewis finally gathers up the
courage to ask Emma out; she shoots him down in no uncertain terms. Emma then proceeds to fall in love with Bayliss. Howard
takes Munch to see the bus
stop that Lennox Young was talking about; the two discover that Lennox
and Prescott came in together to the free clinic across the street, Prescott bleeding from a gaping hole in his chest. Munch and Howard
determine that Prescott was accidentally shot by Lennox in their house. The detectives find
no physical evidence in the house except for a bloody bedsheet; Munch asks Lennox for the
gun, which Lennox steadfastly denies having.
Later that night, Bayliss goes with Emma to an art exhibit featuring works done by
prisoners and psychos, hoping to look inside the mind of a killer...Adena Watson's
killer. The two then go to Emma's apartment, where they proceed to get liquored up and sleep together in Emma's coffin/bed.
A hearing is held for Wilgis' lawsuit; at the conclusion, Weaver announces to Pembleton that
the city has settled with Wilgis for $200,000, which makes Frank even angrier. Frank
asks Megan if he had gone too far with Wilgis; she answers that he did. Munch and Howard decide to go back to the Young house and force Lennox to give up the gun. Munch goes
ballistic when Lennox refuses, but it is no use; Lennox tells them truthfully that even if
they take the gun, there can be another one in the house by tomorrow.
The next morning arrives and Bayliss tells Felton about his tryst with Emma; Beau leaks the secret all over
the squadroom and the others end up spilling the beans to Meldrick, who then calls Bayliss
a "disloyal son of a bitch" and promptly backs out of the bar ownership.
Bayliss goes straight over to Emma's house to break up, but he and Emma end up going to bed together for the second time in two days. Meanwhile,
Frank tries to get some closure on his case by going to church, and Beau gets the shock
of his life when he returns to an empty house, his wife and children gone. |
