The Wilsons go on the local news and offer a reward of $10,000 for information leading
to the arrest of a suspect in the Brierre murder. Barnfather gets edgier with each passing
moment; he tells Giardello that he wants the case solved today.
Lewis and Falsone make a return trip to Wilkie Collins' house, this time to investigate
the murders of Collins and his wife. Their son Jack is found in the second floor; when the
police try to get near him, he panics and runs into the bathroom. Eventually he is calmed
down by Falsone. Back in the squadroom, Meldrick and Paul are convinced that Georgia Rae
Mahoney had ordered the hit from inside her jail cell.&bsp Jack takes a look at all the
dangerous-looking police in the building and begins to panic again; Falsone decides that the
kid needs to go somewhere fun to relieve his mind, so he takes Jack to the park. Falsone
finds out that he and Jack have something in common: their knowledge about cars.
Kellerman takes a trip down to the morgue; Cox, her suspicions piqued by Falsone asking
her about the Luther Mahoney shooting, asks Kellerman if the shooting was clean. He goes
ballistic, genuinely offended that his one-time girlfriend would take the word of Falsone
over his. Meanwhile, Danvers meets with the investigators in the Brierre murder and tells
them that he will issue them warrants for the Wilson home and Felix' blood and hair, but
says that he cannot give them a warrant for Hal's blood and hair unless they find his
fingerprint in the bathroom where Malia was found.
Lewis and Falsone listen to the Collins' answering machine tape and find a voice which
seems to belong to the killer; Stivers recognizes it as Robert Castleman, a cop who once
worked with her in narcotics and is now a sex crimes detective. Castleman is recognized by
Jack Collins and is brought into the Box, where he reveals that he has been on Luther's
payroll since 1993 and that Georgia Rae Mahoney had ordered him to kill the Collinses. Falsone
celebrates at the Waterfront, where he tells Cox about his ex-wife and the boy they
had together, three-year old Daniel.
The detectives start working the Wilson angle; they search the entire house and get a
blood sample from Felix Wilson, but do not do the same with Hal since they were unable to
find a print in the bathroom. During their search, Thea becomes very angry, directing her
hatred at Malia; if she hadn't brought her to Baltimore, she says, none of this would have
happened. Boxes of the Wilsons' things are taken back to the squadroom. Bayliss finds
a batch of old love letters from Hal to Malia; armed with the letters, Pembleton
goes back to the Wilson house to find out the truth.
Frank gets Hal and Felix Wilson in a room together, where they start arguing. It is
discovered that Hal loved Malia but did not have the courage to tell her. One day, Hal had
seen Malia coming out of Felix' bedroom, buttoning her shirt. Felix, ashamed that everyone
now knows about his infidelity, nevertheless asks for the truth from Hal. He goes on to
say that Malia had showed up at the Belvedere, acting hysterical; Hal took her into the
bathroom and hurt her like she had hurt him, only he went a little too far and killed
her. Frank tries to arrest Hal Wilson, but Felix suddenly blocks him; without any physical evidence
or witnesses, Felix says, there is no case; Pembleton has no choice but to let Hal walk.
The Wilsons announce plans to escape to San Diego. Pembleton visits Felix Wilson
and asks if he can live with the fact that his son had murdered somebody; he replies that
he's not sure, but he's going to try. Hal Wilson may have gotten away this time, but
Pembleton assures Giardello that once he strikes again, he'll be there to give him what
he deserves. |
