Scene 1
EXT. Bardwell's Department Store
INT. Bardwell's Wrapping Department
Laverne and Shirley are trying to wrap a giraffe. Laverne puts a piece of wrapping paper over the giraffe's eyes.
Laverne: Look, now the giraffe can be surprised.
Shirley: Will you stop? We have to get this giraffe wrapped for Mr. Hildebrand's niece before 3 O'clock! Do you want to get us both fired?!
Mr. Hildebrand enters.
Mr. Hildebrand: How are we doing, ladies?
Shirley stands up straight in front of the partially wrapped giraffe.
Shirley: Just great, sir. As you can see, we are finishing up on your giraffe. I'm sure your niece will love it.
Mr. Hildebrand: Yes..well, I certainly am counting on you girls to get the job done.
Shirley: Yes, sir.
Mr. Hildebrand: I'll see you girls at 3 O'clock sharp.
Shirley: We'll be finished. Goodbye, sir and have a nice day.
Mr. Hildebrand exits.
Shirley: You see, Laverne..we could have been fired.
Laverne: But we weren't.
Shirley: We could have been.
Laverne: Are you going to sit around and argue? Or are you going to help me wrap this giraffe?
Shirley: (exasperated) Give me the tape!
She snatches it from Laverne's fingers.
Laverne: Ouch!
They continue wrapping the giraffe.
Scene 2
INT. Laverne and Shirley's Apartment
Shirley is sitting on the couch in her white night gown and cap. Her feet are soaking in a tub of hot water. Laverne peaks her head out from their upstairs bedroom.
Laverne: (timidly) Shirl? Are you still mad at me? (silence) Shirl? I said I was sorry for slamming that huge roll of wrapping paper on your foot.
Shirley: Laverne, it weighed 100 POUNDS!!!
Laverne: 75 pounds..not that you'd care.
Shirley: My foots in agony!
Door opens.
Squiggy: Hell-o!
Laverne: (coming down the steps) Uh, boys..this is not a good time.
Squiggy: So you don't care if Lenny's dreams have been shattered? If his chance at sick-cess was thrown out the window like last years garbage?!
Laverne: What happened?
Squiggy: His goldfish died.
Laverne: The one that looked like Don Knotts?
Squiggy: Sadly, yes.
Laverne: Aw.
Lenny steps forward holding his empty fish bowl.
Lenny: (breaking down crying) He was the only fish I could...
Lenny couldn't go on. He just stood there and cried into the fish bowl.
Squiggy: (patting him on the back) It's okay, Len..now, shut up. (to Laverne) Don't you see that this man is heart broken?
Laverne: (putting her arm around Lenny) Aw, I'm sorry that your fish died, Lenny.
Lenny: (crying) Oh, Laverne..I loved him so!
Laverne and Lenny hold each other close.
Laverne: Len, do you want to go somewhere and talk?
Lenny: (sniffling) Okay, Laverne.
They both exit the apartment. Lenny's head is resting on Laverne's shoulder. You can hear Laverne say, "It will be okay, Len..." as she closes the door.
Shirley: (to Squiggy) Shouldn't you be somewhere?
Squiggy: I thought you'd never ask.
He walks over to Shirley, grabs her hand, pulls her off the couch, and walks her to the stairs.
Squiggy: Shall we?
He puts one foot on the step and pulls Shirley towards him.
Shirley: (keeping her feet glued to the floor) Get out!
Squiggy: But Shirley, I'm hurting.
Shirley: GET OUT!
Squiggy: I'm not deaf... I'll leave! But remember this, woman...
He kisses Shirley on the lips.
Squiggy: [CONT'D] Make it last!
Squiggy exits, Shirley screams, and runs upstairs.
Scene 3
EXT. Laverne and Shirley's Apartment Building - That Evening
Laverne and Lenny enter the building and head toward her apartment.
INT. Laverne and Shirley's Apartment - Outside The Door
Lenny: I had a nice time with you, Laverne.
Laverne: (smiling) Me too, Len.
Lenny looked into her eyes and smiled. Then he gently gave he a kiss on the cheek.
Lenny: Goodnight, Laverne.
Laverne entered her apartment, closed the door, leaned up against the door, and sighed a happy sigh.
Shirley: (from upstairs) How was he? Did he cry a lot?
Laverne: No..actually..we had fun together.
Shirley: What did you two do?
Laverne: We comforted each other. (brief pause) We talked about his fish and I told him about your foot.
Shirley: You didn't. Did he do his stupid laugh?
Laverne: No, he was sincere.
Laverne walked to the couch, grabbed a pillow, and clutched it tightly, embracing her new feeling.
Shirley: Wait, Laverne. Did something happen between you and Lenny tonight?
Laverne: (smiling) I don't know yet.
Laverne heads upstairs in a dream state, leaving Shirley downstairs in a dazed state of mind.
Shirley: Could Laverne be falling for Leonard Kosnowski?
Shirley follows Laverne upstairs.
Scene 4
Laverne and Shirley's Apartment - Saturday Afternoon
Laverne is in the kitchen fixing herself a Milk and Pepsi. The doorbell rings. Laverne walks to the door and opens it. Lenny stands there with a handful of flowers with the roots dangling at the bottom.
Lenny: Hi, Laverne.
Laverne: Hi, Len.
Lenny: I picked these flowers for you.
Laverne: Thank you.
She takes the flowers and puts them in water.
Lenny and Laverne say each others names at the exact same time.
They laugh.
Lenny: You go first.
Laverne: No, you go first.
Lenny: Okay. (nervously) Laverne, I had a lovely time last night...
Laverne: Me too.
Lenny: ...and if you don't wanna go out with me again, I'll..what did you say?
Laverne: I enjoyed being with you too, Len. In fact, I was hoping you'd ask me out.
Lenny: So you'll go out with me again?
Laverne nods happily.
Lenny steps back and trips on the step.
Lenny: Will you go out with me tonight?
Laverne: Yes.
He somehow made it out the door without breaking anything...important.
Scene 5
INT. Chéz Paris
Laverne and Lenny are sitting at a table, drinking champaign, and eating dinner by candle light.
Laverne: (smiling) This is all very beautiful, Len.
Lenny: But not as beautiful as you, Laverne.
He takes Laverne's hand and she smiles tenderly. They gazed into each others eyes and all time stood still. Both knowing in their hearts that, that one moment in time would change their lives forever.
Scene 6
INT. Laverne and Shirley's Apartment - Later That Night
Laverne and Lenny enter her apartment. Their eyes still locked to each others.
Lenny: Gosh, you're pretty, Laverne.
Laverne: (smiling) Len, can I ask you a question?
Lenny: Sure.
Laverne: Are you my boyfriend now?
Lenny: Yeah, I am.
Lenny gently took her hands and they gazed more deeply than before into each others eyes.
Shirley comes out of the bedroom and turns back around. Lenny leans close to Laverne and their lips touch softly. In that instant, Laverne knew that her future, her soulmate, was standing in front of her, and taking her breath away.
Lenny exits.
Shirley peaked her head out of the door of their bedroom.
Shirley: Vernie?
Laverne: (smiling) I'm in love.
Shirley: Tell me all about it..details.
Laverne hurried upstairs to tell her best friend all about the one man to whom she always was meant to be with.
