Sweet Liberty
Video Synopsis
It's Alan Alda versus Hollywood in the writer-director-star's hilarious comedy about moviemaking. As history professor Michael Burgess, Alda's elbow-patched life and peaceful college town are turned upside down when a film company arrives to make a movie out of his best-selling book on the American Revolution. To Professor Burgess' horror, leading man Michael Caine is a philandering adventurer seemingly determined to give the staid professor a heart attack. The movie's director is a Hollywood hack out to turn the author's historic novel into a racy, youth-oriented, teen comedy and the female star, Michelle Pfeiffer, is so "into" the fictional heroine that the professor finds himself falling in love with the zany actress.
Add the comic complications caused by Alda's live-in lover Lise Hilboldt, daffy mother Lillian Gish, lying screenwriter Bob Hoskins, the university president's neglected wife Lois Chiles, and you have the makings for Alan Alda's most delightful comic confection yet.
Running Time: 107 Minutes
