Dragon \Drag"on\, n. [F. dragon, L. draco, fr. Gr. ?, prob. fr. ?, ?, to look (akin to Skr. dar? to see), and so called from its
terrible eyes. Cf. {Drake} a dragon, {Dragoon}.] 1. (Myth.) A fabulous animal, generally represented as a monstrous winged
serpent or lizard, with a crested head and enormous claws, and regarded as very powerful and ferocious.
But who am I?
Katharin the Dragon. Pleased to meet you. I don't know who you are or how you got here, but I hope your reasoning is good. Furthermore, I hope that you are at least mildly interesting and mildly interested in me. Because you have stumbled upon my lair, my weyr, and I'm not sure that I want to show you the way out.
Before I decide if I should let you go or not, I'll tell you a little about myself. I'm old in human years, but just a young dragon - the equivalent of 18 human years. I've lived in this weyr my entire life. I've taken a few pilgrimages to other places, and seen much of the world, but I always find that life here is better. It's warm, dry, and there are seemingly endless places to explore. In the summer, the air is full of thunderstorms, and in the winter I am cozy and warm here.
I live alone here, yes, but we will not always be apart. And who is we? My mate and I. My mate is Adris. We met years ago, but were mated only recently, just under a year and a half ago. We met in a world of furries, astounded to find a dragon of similar heart among the furries there. We have both made pilgrimages to each other's lairs. One day, I will leave my weyr behind and make his my home so that we can be fully bonded mates for all of time, but in the meantime, if you fly to the western sea and pass the weyr of a beautiful black dragon, drop in and bring him love from his Katharin.
