Oh, desert speak to my heart.
Oh, woman of the earth,
Maker of children who weep for love,
Maker of this birth,
YAHWEH makes his invocation. Jezreel's place as a woman and as a human are stated clearly.
he address her as both a giver of birth, therefore a wife, and as one who is under the curse. Her children are the children of a broken family.
Till your deepest secrets are known to me,
I will not be moved.
I will not be moved.
He expresses his devotion and his desire to be with her - to know her secrets. This desire of YAHWEH's is apparent throughout scripture. He sent down his son to become a human - thus taking on full humanity and the full weight of the temptations of humanity. His faithfulness is emphasized.
He knows her problems and her doubts, but he also knows the solutions and the reasons. She's thinking on the wrong plane - he has something else for her altogether.
Brother let your heart be wounded,
And give no mercy to your fear.
He makes his first plea for her to stop fighting love away. The same things that cause her to seek the affection of other lovers - fear, insecurity, selfish desire -are the things that cause her to turn away from his righteous love. Love can hurt in the beginning.
Adam and Eve live down the street from me,
Babylon is every town.
It's as crazy as it's ever been,
Love's a stranger all around.
This ardent compassion is making her uncomfortable - she can no longer remain quiet. She interrupts, explaining who she is and what she is surrounded by. Darkness, sin, and the effects of the curse render love a total stranger to her world.
In a moment we lost our minds here
And lay our spirit down,
Today we lived a thousand years,
All we have is now.
Her life is but a moment, she reminds him, and she must live for now - it is all she has. She's not necessarily expressing regret, merely justifying her actions.
Run to the water,
And find Me there.
YAHWEH knows her heart and her intentions. He knows that she is in need of satisfaction - he offers himself, the water of life.
Burnt to the core,
But not broken.
Life has been a process by which she was purified. All that is untrue in her nature will be burnt away, but what is left will be true, and it will last. This is his promise to her. He, too, was broken by life, but all that remains is unshakeable.
we'll cut through the madness
Of the streets below the moon.
These streets below the moon.
He knows the craziness that surrounds her and promises to break through it and show her the sanity of real life.
And I will never leave you,
Till we can say,
He promises to remain by her side through life, and not abandon her as her lovers have each done, one after the other.
This world was just a dream,
We were sleeping,
Now we are awake.
Till we can say,
In a moment we lost our minds here,
And dreamt the world was round.
The next life, he promises her, will be the real one. She will no longer 'see through a glass darkly', but will see face to face.
One million mile fall from grace,
Thank God we missed the ground.
Her heart will become bent toward him. She will realize how far she was from his love, but she is not to be held accountable for it. His forgiveness will wash over her.
Run to the water,
And find Me there.
Burnt to the core,
But not broken.
we'll cut through the madness
Of the streets below the moon.
With the nuclear fire of love in our hearts.
He repeats his earlier promises, but with a marked difference - the love that they will share will be a blazing fire to light the heavens.
Yeah, I can see it now, Lord,
Out beyond the breaking of waves
and the tribulation
it's a place and the home of ascended souls,
Who swam out there in LOVE!
She rejoices in his promises. She can almost see the life he has prepared for her, beyond the temporary world.
Run to the water,
And find Me there.
Burnt to the core,
But not broken.
we'll cut through the madness
Of the streets below the moon.
With the nuclear fire of love in our hearts.
Rest easy, baby. Rest easy,
And recognize it all as light and rainbows
Smashed to smithereens, and be happy.
Again, he repeats his promise of life for her. He reassures her - the road ahead will not be easy, but all is well. He tells her to remember that this life is only temporary, and the one he has prepared for her is very good. He wants her to be happy with him and rest in his love.
Run to the water,
And find Me there.
The background for my interpretation of this song is the book of Hosea.
