graphic rant

      What else is important?

One of the most important things for a designer, at least for now, is speed. It is imperative to remember that many web users are not using cable modems. Many are still using dial-up modems that simply don't load that quickly. Nothing turns a web user off faster than a page that won't load. As a designer, I have five seconds to get something very important and very interesting right to the user's eyes before they will look elsewhere.

Navigability is an underrated but very important point for a designer to consider. It is often overlooked by lower-budget designers. One page of a site should never be more than two clicks away from another page, and a user should always have a solid feel for where they are, especially in a large site.
