Red hot chilli peppers
Californication
The long awaited Red hot chilli peppers studio album is finally here and its as good as many people expected it to be. Yes, it differs from previous abums One hot minute and Blood sugar sex magik, but stays the same in the terms of quality. One of the reasons certainly is the return of John Fruscianty to the band. Yet, the main reason of the excellence of Californication is its atmosphere. Only one other album had such a strong and clear atmosphere - U2´s masterpiece The Joshua tree. While The Joshua tree reminds me of a quiet dawn on some great american plain (exactly the one shown in the booklet), when I listen to Californication, I think about a long trip across the country on a traffic-free dirt road. If youve seen the video for Scartissue, you know exactly what I´m talking about. First song on the album Around the world demonstrates this pretty much and the third one, Scartissue is totally a song you wanna hear on a long car trip. Quiet slow ballads (Scartissue, Porcelain, Road trippin´) alternate with angry ones (Parallel universe, Get on top) altrough the whole album, never losing its breath. Fortunately RHCP didnt experiment with modern sound techinques, like most bands (only few talented artists do that and still remain true to their music, like for example U2, Garbage or Smashing Pumpkins). Instead they recorded a classic good old guitar rock-pop album. Way to go. If youre looking for some music to listen to, while youre on a trip (now i dont mean Trip.....techno music would be better for a Trip :-), you have no better choice than Californication.
