MASSIVE ATTACK
Massive´s latest album Mezzanine is so much depressing it even
surprised me, eventhough I knew what feeling Massive tend
to. This really is NOT a dance album, its not even very suitable
for most radio stations. If you got the idea, that Im putting
Mezzanine down, youre absolutely wrong. All I was trying to
say, is that this album is not for everyone. If you are into music that
you have to think about, pay attention to and actually feel it, not
just listen to, this is the one. With the pleasent exeptions of songs
Teardrop (it won an MTV award for the video, if Im not mistaken)
Man next door and Exchange, Mezzanine is full of dark rythms
and spooky vocals. The first song Angel is exactly what this is
about. Silent electronic rythm alternates with a modulated voice
singing the refrain and then the main body of the song begins
with a "massive attack" of electric guitairs and bass. However, the
strongest songs of Mezzanine are the darkest ones, which are
usually powered by awesome voices of 3d and mushroom.
Those songs are Rising son, Inertia creeps, Mezzanine and
Group Four. I even found Rising Son and Inertia Creeps best
songs ever made by Massive Attack. As I said before, Mezzanine
is not for everyone. If you rather listen to more pleasing music
you should try Massive´s "lighter" album Protection, BUT
if you like more dark and depressive music, it doesnt get
better than this. Hail Massive Attack.
If youre not familiar with this already.....one of the guys is leaving
the band :-(((( Im really sorry to hear that. I also hope it doesnt
affect Massive´s music TOO much.
