The life of Truman Burbank is a fake. Everything and everyone around him is a fake. Everyone knows it. Everyone except Truman himself.
A man named Christoff built the largest television studio ever created, found an unwanted infant, put him in this studio, which was now Seahaven, the perfect town, installed thousands of cameras throughout the whole town and watched Truman's every step. Non stop live broadcast of The Truman show entertained millions for 10 909 days of Truman's live. Once, when he was still at collage, a mysterious and beautyful woman Lauren (or Sylvia) came to him and told him the truth (just a little part, though. She was dragged away, before she could spoil Christoff's dream). At first, he didnt know what she was talkin g about, but after many strange incidents, he was suspecting something is wrong. He couldnt leave Seahaven, he met a person who was supposed to be dead, he realized how other people were doing same things over and over each day, but the main reason was, t hat he still remebered Lauren and the things she said. One day he decided to leave Seahaven and find out if he really is just a toy in hands of TV producers. Truman's life changed since then...
This movie was Jim Carrey´s first true dramatic role. His creations in The Mask, Ace Ventura, Cable Guy, etc. showed him to be a talented actor, but his roles were too one-sided. Peter Weir (TS director) gave him a chance to really prove his talent. Jim took this opportunity and suceeded. His Truman Burbank is outstanding. I doubt Truman could have been portraited any better. The rest of the actors gave no less brilliant performances. For example, Christoff played by Ed Harris (one of my favorite actors) did simply a perfect job. Truman show is not just about great acting. Every aspect of the movie was very well done. Weir's directing, Niccol's script, photography, music, special effects were all outstanding. In short, brilliant and smart movie. I did expect Truman Show to be a very good movie, but not THAT good. I was VERY pleased of the outcome (just like when I saw The Negotiator) . Its a shame, Truman show wasnt nominated in Best Movie category at the Osacrs. In my opinion this movie would deserve that gold swordsman.
